This Woman's Younger Brother Had Nothing To Wear For The School Dance, So She Turned To Facebook

Siblings are usually bitter enemies, sworn to roast, bother, and pester each other until the end of time.

However, when stuff gets real, and your brother or sister needs some help, you’ve always got their back.

And this big sister lived up to that role when she found out that her younger brother had nothing to wear to his first big school dance.

Lisa White took to Facebook and asked her friends to help get her brother some fly clothes so he could take his girlfriend out in style.

Her little bro, Cody Keifer, didn’t really have many clothing options at his disposal, as he never went to a school dance before. Yes, it was his first time. So not only was he most likely nervous, but he was a complete newbie to the whole situation.

White then asked Facebook to provide Cody with clothes to match his girlfriend.

“His girlfriend is wearing a red dress and my brother is in need of a red tie, white shirt and black pants. Depending on prices, I can buy some of it for him. But if anyone has anything he can borrow or possibly have to wear for the night, it would mean the world to him.”

White thought that she would only get “two or three responses.”

“Within maybe an hour, I had 10 different people offer to take him shopping. I had put my phone down and came back after doing the dishes and I was just amazed at how many people had already offered to help.”

Cody was floored by the community’s response. He initially only asked his sister for a red tie, but then she ended up getting him a whole outfit.

“I’ve never had that experience before — not just the dance but the help from the community.” Cody said

So Lisa took Cody to meet up with a kind woman who agreed to help out online, and she was a total stranger.

“(Cody) was more worried that is would be embarrassing or awkward and it wasn’t at all. The woman walked in and said ‘Let’s do this!’ She told him, ‘You need to look like a king,’ and ‘That’s what every young man deserves’ and ‘Don’t even look at the price.’ And he got everything: the shirt, the shoes, the tie, right down to his socks.” – White said in an interview with Omaha.com.

Someone else even bought Cody a corsage for him to give to his date, and another family provided a gift card so the young couple could enjoy a nice dinner.

The outpour of support made White extremely emotional, especially because Cody was working hard in school to get his grades back up.

“It was above and beyond anything I ever imagined. I was so glad to see him finally going to a dance and wanting to do that, I wanted to bawl my eyes out. I’m glad he got to experience it, and I got to witness it all. And I’m so grateful to the people who helped him.”

It’s easy to get bogged down in negativity and generally feel like humanity sucks, it’s not like this world doesn’t give you more than enough evidence of that. But you can never discount our common desire to help those in need. It sounds like Cody had an amazing first school dance because of it.

Cop Ignores Guy's Arrest Warrant To Drive Him 100 Miles To Reunite Him With His Family

Whenever you hear distressing news, it’s like the laws of the universe don’t apply to you. When my wife was pregnant, I suddenly became a hyper aware driver; I don’t think I’ve ever made it that fast to the hospital before in my life.

So when Mark Ross found out early Sunday night that his teenage sister tragically died in a car crash, he hopped in a friend’s car and told him to gun it.

Ross didn’t own a car and needed to quickly get from Indiana to Detroit to be there for his family.

Naturally, they were driving fast. And naturally, while driving through Ohio, they got pulled over. Because everyone gets pulled over for speeding in Ohio.

What’s worse is that Ross’ friend was driving with a suspended license, so he was arrested and his car was towed, basically getting screwed over for trying to help his friend out.

Ross worried that he would be arrested too because of a petty warrant, but Michigan officials refused to pick him up because of the distance. Ross then broke down crying.

“I explained to the officer that my sister had died and that I needed to get to my mother ASAP. I broke down crying, and he saw the sincerity in my cry. He reaches over and began praying over me and my family.”

So Sgt. David Robinson of Ohio State Highway state patrol did something amazing. He drove Ross over 100 miles to Detroit to be with his family. Ross was stunned.

“Everybody knows how much I dislike cops, but I am truly grateful for this guy. He gave me hope.”

Officers: more of this and less shooting unarmed people, please.

I just hope there was leniency for Ross’ friend who put his neck on the line trying to do a solid for his buddy.

These Are The Friendliest Countries In The World And America Doesn't Even Break The Top 10

Whenever my friends and family visit from overseas, they’re usually shocked by how closed-off people are in North Jersey and NYC. They were dumbfounded that I didn’t know more about my neighbors and at first, I thought they were just being dramatic.

The more I thought about it though, the more I realized that I really don’t know my neighbors at all. Hell, whenever I drive if someone cuts me off I throw out such horrible swear words and vile insults that I’m taken aback by just how disgusting I can become.

But according to this report, the rest of the United States doesn’t really suffer from that problem: it turns out that there are countries that are a lot less friendly than America.

InterNations surveyed more than 14,000 people from 67 countries around the world to find out what the most and least friendly countries were.

The study specifically focuses on ex-patriates, i.e., people who have decided to leave their country of origin to go and permanently live in another country.

The United States dropped 13 places from last year’s study, coming in at 26.

One of the biggest drawbacks many cited as to relocating to the US was the amount of taxes and lack of services provided for said taxes. But if you’re a US citizen, you wouldn’t need a survey to tell you that.

They also broke down the reasons why people moved abroad: some did it for school, work, for romance, or to accompany a spouse’s work relocation.

According to the report, the friendliest country surveyed was Taiwan. The least friendly? Kuwait, which was pretty much confirmed by this guy.

Malta, Ecuador, Mexico, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Australia, Austria, Luxemborg, and Czech Republic rounded out the top 10.

The survey considered many factors, including quality of life, ease in finding a job, political stability, and overall friendliness of the people.

New York Public Library's New Book Train Will Take Your Inner Book Nerd For A Ride

If you were a fan of New York Public Library’s two block long Rose Reading Room, I’ve got some good news for you; the ceiling restoration is complete and the room is scheduled to be reopened on October 5th.

That’s great news for any bookworm, student, or person that can’t stand sitting at a Starbucks while the Pumpkin Spice craze is still going on. The movie scenes shot in the room do it no justice, and the only real complaints people ever had was how much lugging around they had to do if they wanted to pick up a research book from the other side of the library on one of its 11 floors.

That is now a thing of the past.

With the recent expansions and book relocations, planners kept the citizens of New York City in mind when they came up with this new delivery system. Each of the 24 ‘carts’ can hold up to 30 pounds of materials, can travel vertically or horizontally,  and take only 5 minutes to work through all 11 levels of the library thanks to their 75 feet per minute speed. The carts also have built in sensors so you can track your delivery when it’s on route to you.

The $ 2.6 million dollar was part of an initiative to help make the Rose Reading Room an even more pleasant experience for those that would be spending countless hours there going through however many of their 4 million volumes of research material they had to.

Matt Knutzen, the director of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Divisions within the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, said in a statement, “Our priorities include preserving our materials and making them increasingly accessible to the public in an inspiring space for research. Our recent storage expansion, our restoration of the Reading Room, and the installation of this system are all elements of that work.”

Anna Kendrick Came To Gigi Hadid's Defense On Twitter In The Most Anna Kendrick Way

Far too often in Hollywood, we witness celebrities tearing one another down, which is a pretty bad strategy, given that fellow stars are the only ones who can actually understand each other’s lives of luxury (and endless harassment and violation of privacy).

We mere mortals (and the media) have no problem judging them and their life choices, as we’ve never lived in the public eye. Frankly, we even enjoy feasting on their drama. But, in the face of our endless judgment, Hollywood needs to stick together. That’s why we’re loving how Anna Kendrick supported Gigi Hadid’s spurt of #GirlPower this week.

Disturbing footage surfaced yesterday of model / Instagram phenom Gigi Hadid being harassed and lifted off the ground by a man in Milan.

When security somehow failed to get involved, Hadid put her elbow (and boxing skills) to good use.

Creeps don’t get away with touching this model badass.

Headlines covering the footage, however, slammed Hadid for the incident rather than the man involved.

Gig
google news

Several tabloids described her “lashing out” and described her attacked as a “serial prankster” — as if randomly man-handling a woman on the street is an acceptable ‘prank.’ SMH, world.

However, Twitter was quick to come to her defense, as, you know, she was completely justified in defending herself from physical street harassment.

And Queen of Twitter Anna Kendrick even got involved to her support for Hadid.

As always, she knows exactly how we feel. Resentful of naturally gorgeous women, but totally proud of Gigi and her quick reflexes.

You tell ’em, Anna.

And Gigi just empowered the hell out of us with her tweet addressing the incident.

Yaas, Gigi. Props to you and your elbow.

Donald Trump Is Going To Win According To Professor Who's Correctly Predicted Last 8 Elections

A year or so ago, most people thought that Donald Trump didn’t have any chance of being nominated as the Republican presidential nominee. Fast forward to the present day, and he’s giving Hillary Clinton a hard time in the polls, with a recent McClatchy-Marist poll putting Clinton just 7% ahead. In August, she had a 15% lead with registered voters.

And now, Allan Lichtman, professor of History at American University, says that Trump is probably going to win come November. Why is this important news? Lichtman has correctly predicted the result of every presidential election since 1984. And he’s got a pretty solid method by which he chooses his bet.

== TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY JEAN-LOUIS SA
NICHOLAS KAMM / Getty

Lichtman uses 13 true or false questions, which he calls “keys” for his prediction. He derived these key issues by which the general public make their decision by looking at every American presidential election from 1860 to 1980.

Lichtman told The Fix that “the keys are phrased to reflect the basic theory that elections are primarily judgments on the performance of the party holding the White House. And if six or more of the 13 keys are false — that is, they go against the party in power — they lose. If fewer than six are false, the party in power gets four more years.”

The professor went on to explain that Obama’s relatively healthy approval rating of 58% won’t help Clinton because he deems her to be less charismatic. He also believes that many millennials will defy Clinton’s establishment politics and vote for candidates like Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. In fact, Lichtman laid out all the “keys” that the Democrats have lost to Donald Trump.

Key 1 is the party mandate — how well they did in the midterms. They got crushed.

Key number 3 is, the sitting president is not running.

Key number 7, no major policy change in Obama’s second term like the Affordable Care Act.

Key number 11, no major smashing foreign policy success.

Key number 12, Hillary Clinton is not a Franklin Roosevelt.

Key number 13, Gary Johnson is expected to get more than 5% of the popular vote.

Lichtman called Trump “a serial fabricator,” but added that this trait seems to be working in his favor. “Even when he tells the truth, such as, ‘Barack Obama really was born in the U.S.,’ he adds two lines, that Hillary Clinton started the birther movement,” he continued.

He added that Trump is likely to break “patterns of history that have held since 1860.” Lichtman says it was that unpredictability that made this year’s prediction so difficult. “We’ve never had a candidate before who not just once, but twice in a thinly disguised way, has incited violence against an opponent,” he said. “We’ve never had a candidate before who’s invited a hostile foreign power to meddle in American elections.”

It’s for that reason, that although he predicts Trump will win, Lichtman does suggest the possibility of Trump shooting himself in the foot somehow. “Nobody should be complacent, no matter who you’re for, you gotta get out and vote,” he pleaded.

We Desperately Need This Magical Charger That Makes Your Phone Levitate

Every year, we witness another groundbreaking update in smartphones — and the ridiculous lengths that people will go to to obtain said smartphones.

While the phone technology itself upgrades year to year, putting the last generation phone to shame, the actual charger technology has made very few leaps. So far, no one’s done much to impress us… Until now.

We can thank startup AR Designs for OvRcharge, a phone charger that makes your phone float and rotate in space.

You know, if you’re sick of balancing your phone on a windowsill because it’s as far as the apple charger will reach from the outlet on the wall. So, this new invention gets points for convenience and style. Your phone LEVITATES.

The wonderfully trippy device looks like something straight from J.K. Rowling’s imagination.

If Hermione had an iPhone, it would certainly levitate.

Although she probably wouldn’t need the help of the wireless induction technology that allows the phone to charge while spinning mid-air.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to ditch your current grimy phone case to get the full OvRcharge experience. Users will need to invest in a special case with an electricity receiver and magnet to go with the charger.

Oh, and in case it wasn’t enough for your phone levitate, the device also works with tablets.

No word yet on when when we might be able to add our laptops to the mix. We can’t wait to ditch those annoying charger cords.

The magical charger is out of its crowdfunding and development stages, so it won’t be long before your phone will be floating its way to 100% battery.

After successful Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns raised over $ 60,000 this summer, mass production of the chargers began.

While they’re only available for order by early adopters, they’ll be on the market for all aspiring wizards soon enough.
