Chrissy Teigen Pays Fan's Tuition For Beauty School And Brings Twitter To Tears

Mercedes Edney, an independent skin care consultant and the owner of Ixora Botanical Beauty, recently had an online fundraiser to help her pay her way through beauty school. With a goal of $ 6,000, it had been running for a month, and picked up about $ 400.

That is until one generous follower decided to donate the difference. That follower? Chrissy Teigen, of course.

As you can imagine, Edney was pretty excited.

Teigen responded by saying that she’d donated so that Edney could peruse her dreams.

Edney was blown away, and said that she’s already used the money to pay the school.

People were pretty impressed by the show of generosity.

Parents Are Thrilled With Target's New Breastfeeding Stations

Parents Are Thrilled With Target’s New Breastfeeding Stations

Hey, remember that dude a while back who got pissed off at a woman because she was breastfeeding a baby at a Target store, and then an employee shut him down?

The retail giant has always been known as a family-friendly establishment, with shopping carts that are super child-friendly, the brand’s partnerships with UNICEF, and positive, kid-focused fitness campaigns.

Now, Target’s decided to go and become even more awesome for families. They’re officially putting “Nursing Nooks” in their stores for moms who want to take a load off and feed their kids while they shop.

The popular Facebook page, Breastfeeding Mama Talk, shared a photo from a local Target that puts one of the breastfeeding stations on display.

The post received over 7,000 shares and 21,000 likes, with commenters applauding the fact that the nook was out in the open and not tucked away in a corner.

People started posting photos of more breastfeeding stations in other Target stores.

Target representative Kristy Welker said in an interview with Scary Mommy that the lounges could become a staple in Target locations everywhere.

“In late 2016, we began testing designated nursing rooms at two stores in Minnesota. We will continue to evaluate guest feedback on this test to determine broader rollout to additional stores and we always appreciate hearing from our guests about how we can better meet their needs.”

Do you think Target should make the jump and put them in all stores?

Mourning Dog Takes Care Of Stuffed Animals Like Her Own Puppies

HELP, MY HEART!! Look at this good dog. She’s trying so hard to take care of her puppies, but her puppies are three stuffed toys:

BuzzFeed reports that teen Twitter user Xavier Hernandez shared an image of his dog with her replacement family, captioning it, “So my dog was pregnant and she lost all 3 of her puppies so my mom bought her these toys and she thinks they’re her puppies.” Xavier told them that the dog’s name is Twinkle, and her puppies died during their birth. She seemed depressed after her loss, and Xavier’s mom gave her the three toys thinking it might help comfort her. Apparently, she bonded to them right away.

“She didn’t do anything without them and wouldn’t let anyone touch them,” explained Xavier. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, my face is melting faster than the polar ice caps. On the brightish side, Xavier does seem to think Twinkle is doing better, and taking care of her toys has lifted her spirits. But it’s still freaking killing everyone on the Internet:

Twinkle, Twinkle, little star, you are the best dog by far. Cuddle your baby toys close, cuddle your doggos closer.

Dutch Men Are Holding Hands To Show Support For Brutalized Gay Couple

Dutch Men Are Holding Hands To Show Support For Brutalized Gay Couple

The road to equal rights for any group that’s discriminated against is unfortunately one that’s filled with violence, terror, and heartache.

And although these heinous acts perpetrated against specific groups can’t ever really be stopped, we can control how we react to this violence.

It’s easy to get bitter and violent towards those who harm someone based on their gender, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. But oftentimes the most profound responses to such unabashed hatred are the moments when people opt to show love to victims.

Like how Dutch men all over the Netherlands are holding each other’s hands in support of two gay men who were recently attacked.

A gang of men attacked Jasper Vernes-Sewratan and Ronnie Sewratan-Vernes as they walked together early one Sunday morning. One of the men was armed with a pair of bolt cutters, which they used in the attack.

Jasper wrote about the incident in a heartbreaking and scary Facebook post.

Posted by Jasper Vernes-Sewratan on Monday, May 27, 2013

Unfortunately, Ronnie and I also became a victim of a hate crime towards gays 😞, following the steps in anhem we are two of us to walk home provoked because we are more or less walking hand in hand (what we do Do it more often when we’re alone or walk) but so were attacked by a group of marokannen with between the ages of 14 and 18 years. I have always said that we weren’t crazy and wouldn’t let us know and we did so. Unfortunately had to be one of the guys, so apparently a bolt cutters and after what swearing up and down, it was like pulling and pushing all of a sudden it became so escalated, and eventually even the place fully and did all those guys at the same time on us, before I 😞Knew it was Ronnie out of my neighborhood and I had 3 man on me. I fought me out out but suddenly heard Ronnie screaming that all his front teeth were knocked out by one of those moroccans with so those bolt cutters, I went after her and the rest of them ran away and eventually, all of a sudden I could run towards Ronnie and what shows; His upper lip is one laceration, and he is no less than 4 front teeth and partly a 5th tooth lost by the clapping, the lip is now in the hospital but the teeth are a bigger problem and need to be reset. So we’re all going to cost a spoedtandarts.

What a nice date night was has become a nightmare what I personally catchy.

That this can still happen in 2017 is incomprehensible and hard to understand because in the end, we are just dutch in our own country, but it can’t be like that, apparently, in terms of homosexuality 😞.

A hashtag began in support of the couple, #allemannenhandinhand, which originated from Dutch journalist Barbara Barend.

It translates to: “Can this whole week all men (straight and gay) please just walk hand in hand …”

So men started doing exactly that, all around the world.

Men from all professions and walks of life started tweeting photos of themselves holding hands with other men in a touching show of solidarity for the couple.

Dutch soccer clubs even got in on the act.

As did Rotterdam’s police force.

And members of the religious community.

The movement is gaining tons of momentum with more and more people across the Netherlands and all over the world showing their support for Ronnie and Jasper.

It’s important to note that the Netherlands was the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage back in 2001. But as anyone who’s taken two seconds to look at the progress of the Civil Rights Movement will tell you, widespread acceptance hasn’t been achieved yet.

Philip Tijsma, public affairs manager for COC Nederland, says that LGBT rights in the Netherlands have a long way to go.

“While some may think of the Netherlands as some sort of ‘gay paradise,’ the truth is that the layer of acceptance in this country is thinner than many people think. About 7 in 10 LGBT people say they have been confronted with physical and/or verbal violence because of their identity,” Tijsma said. “Plus, many LGBT students have a difficult time in high school, are bullied and see suicide rates that are almost five times higher than average.”

“The fight for equality continues,” CNN reported.

This Tiny Castle In England Is The Hybrid Of All Your Housing Dreams

This Tiny Castle In England Is The Hybrid Of All Your Housing Dreams

Do you have fantasies about being the King of your own personal castle, but also living in an itty bitty house? The internet has done weird things to us. The Internet has also gifted us with this incredibly detailed hybrid of all your housing Pinterest posts in one. Behold Molly’s Lodge, a one bedroom castle in the Cotswolds on the southern tip of Warwickshire, otherwise known the intersection of my hopes and dreams:

Savills

This wee kingdom isn’t just some knock-off, either. It was designed by architect Edward Blore, in the 1830s, according toCountry Living. Blore worked on lots of famous projects including an extension on Buckingham Palace for Queen Victoria, so he knew what he was doing. Since Blore’s time there’s been some remodeling in the interior, so things are fairly modern:

You can have this perfect picture for only £550,000. Hat not included. This seems entirely reasonable when you see the rest of the estate. Why, yes, of course every castle comes with land, squire. In my humble opinion, the gardens really elevate the whole property from cosplay to royal living:

Lily pads! Rose arbors! Old stone seats that look weirdly like mushrooms! This pace truly has it all, even miniature crenelations to stand on, while looking broodingly into the distance. And if you plan on sharing your little fiefdom, they have a guest house which has been outfitted beautifully as well—though frankly, it obviously used to be where horses pooped:

Live the dream if you can afford it, but know that many have fallen in love with your homestead and are likely planning to lay siege. Where’s the boiling oil shoot on this thing?

Muslim Teen Writes About Black Lives Matter In College App, Gets Into Stanford

Muslim Teen Writes About Black Lives Matter In College App, Gets Into Stanford

I don’t remember what I wrote for my college applications, but it was definitely a handwritten mess. I recapped the plot to Fight Club, talking about the plot of the book like it was the most revelatory thing that’s ever been written in the modern era.

Sure, Brad Pitt’s obliques had a lot to do with why I’d initially become so obsessed with Chuck Palahniuk’s book in the first place, and I kind of cringe when I look back at what I was obsessed with back then as an angsty teen, clinging to anything that could be viewed as “edgy.” But as stupid as that essay was, I do remember writing it with a lot of feeling. As deluded as I was when I wrote it, I definitely believed in what I was doing.

I guess I thought I was making some kind of grand political statement that ended up not paying off. Like, at all. The truth was, I wasn’t really all that excited to go to college, mainly because I was put off by how expensive it was. I also didn’t want to settle for a school that wasn’t my first choice. There are times, however, where I wonder what would’ve happened had I gotten accepted to Yale, or if I never attended college at all.

But this teen’s risky college statement to Stanford, which asked the question, “What matters to you, and why?” paid off in a huge way.

Ziad Ahmed, a high school senior at Princeton Day School, decided that he would extend his passion for activism into every aspect of his life, including his college applications. While most students would fold under the pressure and probably submit another McEssay that highlights a story about a time they did something meaningful (and a chance to rattle off how amazing they are), Ziad demonstrated his amazingness by taking a huge risk and showing how seriously he takes his activism.

“I was actually stunned when I opened the update and saw that I was admitted,” Ziad said in an interview with Mic.

“I didn’t think I would get admitted to Stanford at all, but it’s quite refreshing to see that they view my unapologetic activism as an asset rather than a liability.”

Ziad received tons of praise from other notable Muslim activists and his tweet has been liked over 5,000 times.

The young student went on to say that his Muslim faith compels him to be a social activist, and that turning a blind eye to the issues that African-Americans face on a daily basis goes against his religious upbringing.

“To me, to be Muslim is to be a BLM ally, and I honestly can’t imagine it being any other way for me. Furthermore, it’s critical to realize that one-fourth to one-third of the Muslim community in America are black … and to separate justice for Muslims from justices for the black community is to erase the realities of the plurality of our community.”

If Ziad looks familiar, it’s because the 18-year-old has already been acknowledged on a National level for all of his activism.

He’s given a TedxTalk about the stereotypes Muslim teens face, was invited to the White House’s Iftar Dinner, was put in charge of Martin O’Malley’s youth presidential campaign, and worked for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign as an intern. Not to mention, he’s already founded two youth organizations and has been accepted to Princeton and Yale, in addition to Stanford.
