J.K. Rowling Just Officially Revealed That There Was More Than One Harry Potter

J.K. Rowling is keeping the Harry Potter universe alive and breathing through her world-building site, Pottermore. She frequently posts short stories expanding the world of witches and wizards, and it’s kept fans satisfied since the last book’s publication.

But a recent post from Rowling has many fans scratching their heads and wondering what the famous author’s future plans are.

In a recent post entitled The Potter Family, Rowling delves deep into Harry’s family tree and their lineage. She begins:

“The Potter family is a very old one, but it was never (until the birth of Harry James Potter) at the very forefront of wizarding history, contenting itself with a solid and comfortable existence in the backwaters.”

But it was this piece in the middle of the story that caught fans’ attentions:

“… Henry Potter (Harry to his intimates),  who was a direct descendant of Hardwin and lolanthe, and served on the Wizengamot from 1913-1921.”

That’s right. There was a Harry Potter before Harry Potter.

This Harry Potter, or Henry, was the one we know’s great-grandfather. As it turns out, he was just as big a do-gooder as his great-grandson would end up becoming. Rowling writes:

“Henry caused a minor stir when he publicly condemned then Minister for Magic, Archer Evermonde, who had forbidden the magical community to help Muggles waging the First World War.

His outspokenness on the behalf of the Muggle community was also a strong contributing factor in the family’s exclusion from the ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’.”

The ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’ were the 28 British families that were still “truly pure-blood,” or married to other pure-blood wizards, by the 1930s. Fans have interpreted this as a sign of things to come.

Rowling’s most recent film, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, was set in the 1920’s. Since there are four more films in this series slated for release, many are looking at these tales for any indication of where the stories might go. If future movies take the wizards into World War II, a group of xenophobic wizards would fit right in.

Whatever Rowling has planned, you can bet Harry Potter fans will eat it up and look for any clues they can find.

This Timelapse Video Of The Sun Rising Over Stonehenge Today Is Awe-Inspiring

Today is the summer solstice—the longest day of the year and the first day of summer in the northern hemisphere. In England, 13,000 people marked the occasion by visiting Stonehenge, in one of the rare occasions when the 5,000-year-old monument is open for the public to wander around in.

People started getting to Stonehenge in the darkness of early morning in order to watch the sunrise over Salisbury Plain, just as ancient Britons might have done–while it isn’t clear what Stonehenge was used for, many archaeological theories posit that it was a place of celebration for early British people during the solstices. The rock formation is aligned with the rising and setting of the sun during both solstices, as this 30-second video taken by English Heritage, the organization that maintains Stonehenge, shows.

It’s sort of chilling to recognize you’re looking at a view that people have experienced for thousands of years.

But even people who haven’t gotten out to Stonehenge have figured out cool ways to celebrate the longest day of the year, from doing yoga in Times Square (which is, after all, kind of a modern Sttonehenge):

To making witchy crafts out of nature:

And even making a mini-Stonehenge out of library books.

But whatever you do this solstice, make sure you get outside today!

Everyone (Even Elon Musk) Has Feelings About This Cat That Got Stuck In A Tesla

Over the weekend, YouTube user S U faced a problem that (presumably) no human being has dealt with before: a cat was stuck inside his Tesla. He heard a cat meowing and traced the sound back to his car. What made this situation extra weird? He didn’t have a cat.

So he posted a video asking for help:

Fortunately, he was able to bring his Tesla Model X into a service station after what I assume was a very strange call. They were successfully able to get the stray cat out. But she did not want to leave.

The car’s owner named the kitten Tessie and she is doing much better now. They gave her a some water, and eventually one of the rescuers was able to find her a new home. In a third video, “S U” said, “Her weekend obviously had a rough start but she probably had the best end of the weekend ever.”

Tessie has been getting a lot of attention online. Even Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk was talking about her.

And the rest of the internet followed suit.

As cute as this is, let’s just hope that Tessie learns to stay away from cars from here on out.

Armpit Tattoos Are The Latest Ink Trend To Flood Instagram

Thinking about getting a tattoo? Don’t just dip your toe in the water; jump in pits deep with a trendy armpit tattoo. People everywhere are inking themselves up on one of the most sensitive areas of the human body that is not NSFW. It looks pretty cool, but it does make me wonder—who gets to see these?

The pictures on Instagram under the hashtag #armpittattoo are a beautiful museum of all the secret pictures people want to carry in their pits. Though some are very intriguing, it only seems worthwhile to do if you either need to desperately hide that you have a tattoo or you have a job where people are always looking there. Maybe as a professional basketball player? But check them out for yourself and decide if you’d let someone stick a needle into your tickle zone:

The real secret here is that armpit tattoos aren’t a brand new thing. Like all trends, they’re a repeat of something an older generation already covered:

This Girl Replaced All Her Family's Photos With Perfect Replicas Starring Their Dog

It’s summer, and there isn’t much to do. As former children, we all know there’s only enough entertainment to keep you busy for the first few weeks of summer break. After that, it’s up to you to make some fun. Just take this Twitter user Marissa Hooper as an example.

The 21-year-old student decided to reshoot all the family photos that were on display around the house and replace all her family members with her dog, Dixie.

Marissa swapped out her older sister’s kindergarten yearbook photo, a vintage black-and-white picture of her grandmother, and her own graduation photo with hilarious recreations featuring Dixie.

Her mom, Kathryn, told BuzzFeed that it took a few weeks for her to notice that the photos were being replaced. “It was kind of embarrassing,” she said. Eventually, a friend who was hanging out at the house pointed it out to her. “I don’t want people thinking that’s what I do in my spare time,” she added.

Twitter found it hilarious, of course.

Since the tweet went viral, Marissa has started an Instagram account for all of Dixie’s fans.

We all need to steal this idea.

This Kid Hid Test Answers Behind His Nails And The Internet Is Screaming

Twitter user @glxzwdwyws, who lists his name as Andrw, had to pass a physics test. He may not have been prepared to study for it, but he was definitely ready to spends what looks like hours on a manicure for it. He put all the formulas he needed to pass the test behind each nail, then splashed some sort of Jackson Pollock inspired art on top. This. Is. Genius:

The internet is blown away by Andrw’s skills. His tweet has completely blown up, and he was so overwhelmed by attention that he was sure he’d be getting a note from the principal’s office any second. Instead, he passed his test! But you know what—even if you failed, Andrw, it would have been WORTH IT.

Everyone is so inspired by Andrw’s ingenuity, they’re rushing to improve on perfection and throw in their own ideas for cheating:

Unfortunately, for some…it’s too late.

People Offended By Background Graphic In Wheel Of Fortune's “Southern Charm” Week

In a promo to promote “Southern Charm Week” on Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak and Vanna White appeared in front of a backdrop which  appeared to feature black slaves working on a southern plantation. Yes, this is a real picture someone had to sign off on before it appeared on  National Television:

Others are trying to figure out how this could ever happen:

Many MANY people green-lighted this, that’s how you know that there are no POC in that team pic.twitter.com/D77g0xJv9q

— Isabelle (@bellecs) June 16, 2017

According to the Daily News, the structure in the backdrop is Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, Louisiana, which was built by slaves. The plantation has historical exhibits dedicated to the slaves who resided at Oak Alley, and many African American Employees dress in period costumes.

“Wheel of Fortune” visited Oak Alley in 2005 to shoot a remote, and the backdrop was apparently a screen-grab from some of their stock footage. Though the show has apologized and will fix the image in later airings, this entire situation shows that you can never be too careful about what you’re broadcasting on national television.

Trump Just Tried Lying About His Twitter Followers–It Didn't Work

Source,Source

The old saying “Size Doesn’t Matter” is a phrase that Donald Trump doesn’t seem to ever agree on. Whether it be the size of his fortune or the size of the turn out to his Inauguration, Donald tends to exaggerate a bit. With his recent tweet about the size of his social media following, I decided to dust off my old calculator and cross reference the numbers.

Earlier today, Donald Trump tweeted once again about “Fake News Media” and included the number of his social media following.

Something didn’t seem right so let’s put that number to the test!

Let’s start with his Twitter numbers. He has 32,427,507 followers on Twitter.

Social Media Followers Subtotal: 32,427,507. (There always has to be a starting number!)

Source

What do all those numbers add up to?

Total Social Media Followers: 62,989,048

That doesn’t look like 100 million to me. If we really wanted to get down to nitty-gritty, we could add the @POTUS twitter and facebook numbers (18,836,758 and 1,726,342 respectively), but that still only makes 83,552,148.

Keep in mind, social media is constantly changing. In the future, Trump could be right. He could have 100 million followers. But as of right now, I can put my calculator down and say, “Donald Trump, you’re wrong.”

Twitter Just Noticed Something Odd On Melania's Birthday Card To Donald

President Trump got a number of birthday shoutouts on Twitter this week, but none stood out more than the casual greeting he received from his wife, Melania.

Source

Not only did she wait until a leisurely 10pm to tweet his birthday greeting, but the card she posted contained a suspicious orange smudge.

Source

Seriously, what IS that thing?

Fortunately, Twitter had plenty of theories.

The theories kept coming:

But let’s be honest, we all know what that gross smudge REALLY is…

Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory.

But maybe the Trumps are just bad at birthdays. Let’s not forget the birthday tweet President Trump sent to his wife back in April. You know, the one with the American flag that only had 39 stars?
