Jimmy Kimmel Fights Tears As He Calls Out Trump In Plea Against Gun Violence

Despite the fact that Cruz was reported to authorities several times, and was even not allowed to bring a backpack to school after making threats and jokes about committing acts of violence, Donald Trump responded to the shooting by saying that Cruz just needed to be reported to the authorities…more.

Trump chalked the act of violence up to “mental illness,” which, in my opinion, is par for the course for NRA-backed politicians whenever someone commits an act of terrorism who isn’t an immigrant or Muslim. Despite the fact that Trump seemed to be disturbed by Cruz’s mental illness that may have led him to murder 17 high schoolers, Trump still revoked a law implemented by Obama that would halt the sales of firearms to the mentally ill.

Many people were underwhelmed by Trump’s response to the shooting, saying that it was unfair to put the onus on children and school administrators, especially when Cruz’s behavior was reported several times.

Some pointed out that although Trump is quick to tweet out anti-Islamic fake news stories, he’s not so quick to confront the elephant in the room: there have been an overwhelming amount of mass shootings and acts of terrorism that are carried out by U.S. citizens – the majority of them white males.

Late show host Jimmy Kimmel responded to Trump’s reaction to the shooting and echoed the sentiments of many Americans: that the lack of stricter gun regulations are largely contributing to the string of violent attacks on civilians in our nation.

Kimmel’s big gripe was Trump and many GOP lawmakers’ gut-reaction: which is to blame “mental illness” and not gun laws on the attack.

“You like to say this is a mental health issue but one of your very first acts as president, Mr. Trump, was to actually roll back the regulations that were designed to keep firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill. You did that. Your party voted to repeal the mandates on coverage for mental health. So, I agree, this is a mental illness issue because if you don’t agree we need to do something about it, you’re obviously mentally ill.”

He also called out the lack of any real action being taken by certain politicians…

Something that New York Daily News called attention to this past Valentine’s Day when they revealed what all of the politicians are getting paid from the NRA for their support of the organization.

Former presidential hopeful Marco Rubio issued a canned non-response after the shooting in the school, acting as if it was something he couldn’t have at least helped to prevent.

But people reminded him of his affiliation with the National Rifle Association.

From 1999 until now, Rubio’s reportedly made $ 3.3 million from the group.

When Kimmel had finished calling out Trump and other lawmakers for their lack of action, he urged viewers to visit everytown.org. The site helps put people in touch with their local politicians and be vocal about the changes they want to see in US gun law.

Florida Sheriff of Broward County, Scott Israel, also called out lawmakers insisting that stricter gun regulations be written into law. He specifically pointed out Trump’s decision to allow the mentally ill to purchase firearms.

How many more young people needs to die before any meaningful change is enacted?

People Can't Stop Laughing At How Ridiculous Their Pets Look When They're Sleeping

One of the things I admire most about my cats is their ability to sleep anywhere—on the bed, behind the toilet, draped over the shoe I’ve been looking for for the last twenty minutes. They just have the capacity for bone deep relaxation. And sometimes it looks really, really weird.

A popular Japanese hashtag that loosely translates to “be an untidy sleeper” is circulating on Twitter right now, and it shows just how freaky animals get when they’re chasing that REM sleep:

These animals are all supposedly okay. They’re just ridiculous, not in comas. But if you saw a person looking like this on the couch, you’d scream:

This rabbit food was set to stun (I checked, the rabbit on this person’s timeline is FINE):

Animals don’t care where they land:

Or if they’re scaring the crap out of you:

Or what corner of the cage they’re crammed into:

But, again, they’re okay!!

Even if it seems like they’re trying NOT to be okay:

And then, in the snap of your fingers, they’re ready to play again.

22 Of The Worst 'Bad Teacher' Stories These Adults Still Remember

When you’re a kid, adults seem to have total control over your lives wherever you go. If you’re lucky, you have parents you love and can stand being around. But in school, you never know what you’re gonna get and it changes from period to period. Maybe a teacher will change your life for the better or maybe they’ll be nothing but an extremely hostile babysitter to 30 rambunctious middle schoolers.

If you had a bad run-in with a lousy teacher, it might haunt you forever, even when you’re a grown adult who has moved on to better things. For some reason, an authority figure saying or doing something mean sticks with you. This was proven true when Twitter user and Cartoon Network employee Marie Lum asked her followers if they had any anecdotes about things their teachers had done long ago that still bothered them today.

But first she shared hers:

Gasp! Horrible, but not surprising. Lots of other people had their own very specific, very annoying encounters with bad teachers, who did everything from tie them to the desk to insist they were spelling their own names wrong:

Any of these stories remind you of someone mean holding a ruler??

Tomi Lahren Shut Down On Twitter By Florida Shooting Survivor

On Wednesday, a former student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, shot 17 people dead and injured 14 more in the deadliest U.S. school shooting since Sandy Hook.

The accused 19-year-old, who was apprehended after apparently fleeing the scene, is believed to have links to a white supremacist group and reportedly commented on a YouTube video last year that he would be a professional “school shooter.” The FBI was made aware of the comment at the time. The teenager was also a concern to school staff, and had been banned from carrying a backpack while on the campus.

In the hours since, social media has, as usual, been a platform for gun reform debate. Especially since the shooting came just short of a year after President Trump rescinded an Obama-era rule aimed at blocking gun sales to certain mentally ill people

In an address to the nation during the aftermath, President Donald Trump said he would discuss policies to make schools safer during a meeting with U.S. governors and attorneys general later this month. He added that “it’s not enough to take actions that make us feel like we are making a difference — we must make that difference.”

Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren appears to be one of those opposing stricter gun laws, accusing the left of politicizing the shooting.

Carly also responded to a tweet by President Donald Trump, in which he offered his “prayers and condolences.”

She also thanked first responders.

Carly also went on to claim that her grandfather had also hidden in a closest during the first mass shooting in U.S. history. In 1949, Howard Barton Unruh killed 13 people in a rampage around his neighborhood. Unruh was found to be criminally insane and died in 2009.

Other students were also quick to respond.

While others responded to President Donald Trump.

Other social media users were also quick to criticize Lahren.

Many parents and students have also taken to social media to share heartbreaking text messages they exchanged during the shooting.

Thankfully in this case, the two were reunited.

What do you think of Lahren’s tweet and the response?

Young Olympians Are Making People Question What They Did With Their Youth

The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang are giving people a brief respite from bad news. We get to see people at the top of their game, living life to the fullest, while dancing on ice or flying over a snow hill. It’s beautiful.

People have become particularly obsessed with the young’ns.

At the top of the list are 17-year-olds Chloe Kim and Red Gerard, who both won the gold medal for snowboarding, and whose wholesome teen-ness has been on full display throughout the competition.

They’re very cute and relatable. But that relatable quality ends for the vast majority of people when their Olympic accomplishments come up.

SB Nation tweeted that Kim and Gerard are the two youngest snowboarding gold medalists in Olympic history, then asked followers, “What were you doing when you were 17?”

And everyone’s responses show why they weren’t getting awarded the highest honor in athletics:

Aside from being a nerd and touching themselves, many former teens were enjoying the drugs and alcohol:

Though some had more innocent pastimes:

Though some are pretty pissed that they’re being asked about their accomplishments when they didn’t have the leg up Kim and Gerard supposedly did:

It’s true, we would all be Olympic gold medalists if all things were equal. Except me, because as a teen I hated sports.

This Couple Proposed To One Another At The Exact Same Time Because They're Meant To Be

It can be hard to stay positive on Valentine’s Day when you’re single, but every once in awhile a real gem surfaces in all these sappy love stories clogging up social media. This is one that will make you shout from the rooftops, “Love is real!”

Meet Tori Monaco and her girlfriend Berkley Cad—or I should say fiancée. They just became engaged after asking each one planned a surprise proposal for the other, to take place at the exact same time.

Insiderreports that they had some help—Cade’s mom knew what each woman was planning, and helped facilitate their proposals so that they took place during a family Pictionary game.

“Her mom was the mastermind,” said Monaco. “They were planning this perfect proposal.”

And she caught the whole thing on video:

In the video, Cade is at the easel, trying to lure the love of her life into guessing, “Marry me.” But then she turns around and sees Monaco on bended knee, asking the same question. Cade had been planning the proposal with her mother for some time, when mom got a call form her daughter’s girlfriend sharing her plans to do the exact same thing. Of course, mom got to scheming.

Everyone is sobbing over this perfect moment:

Help, I’m sobbing! This is the first same-sex relationship for either woman—they met online and traveled across state lines to meet each other. They hit it off right away and have taken it all the way to a ring. And they’re celebrating:

I think this expresses it pretty well:

Woman Makes Museum Exhibits Out Of Roommate's Stuff In Hilarious Prank

Roommates can either be the best or the worst, there’s just no in between. But we’re guessing that Ellen Huet, a writer for Bloomberg, is in the former category.  While two of her roommates were away on a trip, she decided to play a pretty amazing prank on them.

Huet and the rest of the house grouped together to turn their room into a museum, so that future generations might have some insight on San Francisco life.

I’m sure this won’t confuse people in the future…

This one could actually pass for the truth.

Unsurprisingly, people found the photos hilarious.

Who doesn’t have fun with lamination?

History nerds were excited.

Others wanted to pull the prank off themselves.

This Dog Looked Sad Because No One Read To Him So The Internet Rallied To Help

Help, this story has made me cry three times and I haven’t even finished typing one sentence. Grab your tissue box, because you’re gonna need it.

A man named John Mueller posted a picture of Sting, an elderly former racing dog who is a certified therapy pup. Sting is part of a program called Paws to Read, which brings in children to read to shelter dogs so they can become socialized and used to people. That raises their chances of being adopted—okay, I am crying again.

Anyway, that day, no one showed up and Sting spent the afternoon at the library by himself:

In all honesty, Sting is probably fine. He’s a dog, just hanging out, and he has a forever home with Mueller. But his sad, long face has won the Internet’s heart and made him go instantly viral. Just look at it:

Todayreports that the outpouring of support for Sting has been insane. Because Mueller suggest people contact the small Minneapolis library, their phone has been ringing off the hook.

Ann Wahlstrom, children’s librarian at the Ramsey County Library in White Bear Lake, says its been amazing. Hopefully, it hasn’t also been really annoying?

“People are asking if we could hold the phone to Sting’s ear so they could read to him,” she said. “The whole staff of a Petco in California called to say they love Sting. It’s just amazing, the outpouring.”

The program isn’t just for the dogs, Wahlstrom explained, it’s for the kids to give them “a fun, nonthreatening place where they can practice their reading skills to a dog.”

If you’re not already weeping, check out this video of kids reading to dogs in shelters:

Sting has gotten so famous that his sessions are fully booked through April, and a second therapy dog who participates in the program, named Lacey, is also getting lost of belly rubs and stories read to her.

This happy ending still hasn’t ended the tears. My emotions!

Sting is fine! Sting is okay.

People Are Sharing Their 'Ugly Duckling' Transformations And It's Shocking

Growing up is tough, especially because it sometimes feels like the transformation is never going to happen. If you’re going through puberty and it’s terrible, just know there’s another side to it and that is on full display in the subreddit /r/uglyduckling.

The subreddit is for anyone who has undergone a transformation, so not everybody is in that period in college where you finally figure out how to dress. But, many people tend to skew young and the changes they make are pretty simple. Like growing their hair out:

How did she do it? By embracing the little things.

Making little changes in your life can transform you in all sorts of ways, even if it’s the decision to avoid the salon. Every journey begins with one step!

Below are some of the most astounding changes people went through. Some have elaborate stories, some just grew out of their awkward phase, and some just woke up one day and realized they’d changed.

Okay, I’m going to start using moisturizer today. What’s your small change?

Folks Are Sharing Pictures Of Their Dogs Looking Like Humans And It's Uncanny

It’s a bit of common wisdom that folks look like their pets—either because they choose animals who remind them of someone they love (themselves) or because they transform over the years of feeding, petting, and feces disposal.

A man named Liam Rice has his own explanation for this phenomenon. Rice is an extremely handsome animal care officer at the MSCPA who owns a husky named Luna. He posted an impromptu photo shoot with her and suggested their uncanny resemblance to one another is because Luna carries the spirit of a human within:

I don’t think so, but lots of people responded with their own puppers living like people and looking like people. Any thread full of cute dogs is fine with me, so let’s agree to disagree and check them out:

A cat also made it in, which I find relatable:

But people think Liam looks familiar. They also think he looks a whole lot like a cartoon character:

So, Archer Sterling looks like a husky, too? Yep, sounds right.

Liam is a babe!

But he appears to be taken, sorry everyone.

Well, we still have dogs to enjoy. Love can wait.
