People Are Furious Dumbledore Isn't Openly Gay In The New 'Fantastic Beasts' Movie

In 2007, during an appearance at Carnegie Hall, J.K. Rowling surprised fans by saying that Albus Dumbledore is a gay man.

“I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was,” she said.

Some bigots mourned, but who cares about them. Many more rejoiced! Having queer representation in media really important to the LGBTQ community. Too bad there weren’t any explicit references to it in the actual text, but okay.

Ten years later, and fans are a little sick and tired of just “knowing” Dumbledore is gay; they want to see an actual love story, or something. And it’s the perfect opportunity, because his life as a young wizard out on the town is being presented on film in the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them series. We will literally see Dumbledore chasing Grindelwald around. Something’s bound to happen, right? Nope.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director of The Crimes of Grindelwald, David Yates, responded to a question of whether or not Dumbledore will be seen as gay by saying, “Not explicitly.”

He continued, “But I think all the fans are aware of that. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young men. They fell in love with each other’s ideas, and ideology and each other.”

Okay.

Fans have pretty much had it with the queer baiting:

Like, they hate it for logical fallacies as well as the hints of discrimination:

But lots of people are defending Yates and the story’s progression. Including J.K. Rowling, who is like, “Don’t @ me.”

Others are saying that the relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore might be addressed in the next installment. or maybe the one after that? Who knows, the future is unclear!

But the point should be made that no one has seen proof of Dumbledore’s sexuality in the actual books or movies yet, and they want the receipts.

May both Yates and Rowling discover a magical new world called 2018 extremely soon.

Young Dumbledore Is Looking Good In 'Fantastic Beasts' And People Are Not Chill About It

Though it won’t premiere for an entire year, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is already throwing out teasers to get everyone super excited about seeing some of their favorites on the big screen. Except their favorites are being played by brand new actors, which means fans of the Harry Potter franchise have to quickly adjust how they’ve been envisioning these characters. And there was one thing people weren’t prepared for.

Dumbledore is hot now.

I mean, he’s played by Jude Law, who has that face. The hot one. It’s a bit uncomfortable to see someone you’re used to thinking of as a grandpa suddenly look like a truly fantastic beast, but we all have to come to terms with it.

Though it doesn’t seem like Twitter can:

Eh, it’s awkward, but why not enjoy it? Dumbledore won’t be hot forever, but he’s hot now. Or then. Or in the future, when the movie opens? Prequels are too confusing.

Johnny Depp Scored A Major Role In 'Fantastic Beasts' And Harry Potter Fans Won't Stand For It

Harry Potter fanatics have been chomping at the bit for months, just waiting for the November 18th movie release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

As is customary with any ‘Harry Potter’ related event, costumes were in their final stages, people were preparing themselves emotionally for cinematic greatness, and waging an online war for tickets. Nothing could put a damper on this occasion.

…Until one announcement about the cast changed the tone, that is.

Yesterday, Deadline reported that Johnny Depp would have a major role in the Fantastic Beasts films. He’ll be appearing only briefly in the first movie, but is reported to have a starring role in the sequel.

Harry Potter fans and J.K. Rowling devotees were NOT pleased by the choice.

After abuse allegations surfaced during Depp’s divorce from actress Amber Heard over the summer, former fans have refused to support his career. Heard dropped the allegations when they settled in court in August, donating all the financial proceeds to charity.

An overwhelming number of fans seemed to think that his less-than-stellar record over the last year will cast a shadow over the highly-anticipated project.

We had to wonder, didn’t anyone think this through??!???

Now we’re left with a really crappy dilemma:

And people couldn’t help but notice that actresses’ careers had been ruined over much milder offenses.

Certain men in Hollywood seem to be having a great week — but at what cost?
