Waitress Returns $1,000 She Stole From Former Boss With Written Apology 20 Years Later

Waitress Returns $ 1,000 She Stole From Former Boss With Written Apology 20 Years Later

It might sound like a cheesy line, but it is really never too late to do the right thing.

Well, sure, you’ll have to deal with the pain of not doing what you were supposed to have done years prior, but it doesn’t change the fact that you finally made it right, which will not only make you feel better about yourself, but leave a huge impression on other people.

This is something that Carlotta Flores, owner of the El Charro restaurant in Tucson, Arizona came to realize when she received something in the mail that pleasantly surprised her.

image

The letter was from an employee of Flores’ who admitted to stealing money from her restaurant when the two worked together back in the ’90s.

The envelope contained a handwritten letter of apology along with $ 1,000, which the former worker says not only covered the money she stole, but also 20 years of interest on top of it.

Carlotta’s son, Ray Flores, posted a photo of the kind gesture on his Facebook page and tagged his mother, sister, and wife in the post.

In the letter, the past waitress remarks that it was the first and last time she ever stole and that her actions bothered her for decades. And then, she finally decided to take action.

image
“One of the waiters I worked with had encouraged me to ‘forget’ to ring in a few drinks a shift and pocket the cash. And for some stupid reason, I did it. I grew up in the church, I knew better. I hadn’t stolen a dime before then, nor have I since.  Thankfully, I was a terrible waitress and you all fired me before it could amount…”

image
“…to more than a few hundred dollars total. It’s been 20 years, but I still carry great remorse. I am very sorry that I stole from you. Please accept my apology + this money as a repayment + 20 years of interest. May God forever bless you+ your family.”

She signed the letter only as “a thankful former employee,” and left it at that.

After receiving the letter, Flores said in an interview with KVOA that it had a huge impact not just on her, but on her family and employees at the restaurant as well.

It also came at the perfect time — Flores recently was the victim of a robbery.

image
“I had my purse stolen and this sort of renewed the faith that we have a lot of good people out there,” Flores told KVOA.

She also said that the kind gesture left a lot of her staff in tears after reading the message from the past waitress.

image
“I don’t know where she’s at or who she is but I will tell you one thing. I hope that she’s read or has seen what an impact this has made not only on me, my family, my business but where it will go in the future. So I hope she keeps looking to see what we’re doing with it,” said Flores.

I don’t know what it is about waitresses performing acts of kindness that hits us right in the feels. All right, so technically this woman was a thief who was making a mistake she made right after years of it eating her up inside and was technically no longer an employee of El Charro, but it is still pretty awesome of her nonetheless.

image

A few months ago there was Waffle House employee Evoni Williams who was awarded a $ 16,000 scholarship for going above and beyond her duties in helping an older customer by cutting his food for him.

Her act of kindness made waves on the internet, and I think it has to do with the nature of service industry jobs in general.

Restaurant workers like waiters, waitresses, and bus boys are paid below minimum wage in the United States and have to rely heavily on tips for their income. Oftentimes, they aren’t treated the nicest by customers, so when they still manage to keep a smile on their face and show kindness in their situation, even when it’s not an ideal one, that shows real strength.

Canada's Former 'First Lady' Destroys Cougar-Hunter With Emasculating Comment

Laureen Harper is the wife of Canada’s former Prime Minister Stephen Harper and although she comes from a family of hunters, she is absolutely disgusted by the idea of someone hunting for sport.

Something that Twitter saw on full display when Harper commented on Canadian TV Show Host Steven Ecklund’s recent cougar hunt.

People were shocked that Ecklund would proudly display his kill of the big cat.

It left many wondering what someone would gain from shooting down a defenseless animal in the first place, and what would the situation be like if the tables were turned.

Harper’s comments, however, were a bit more straightforward, delivering an emasculating insult directed right at Ecklund online on her Twitter account.

That’s right, she went there.

Her response went viral, garnering over 16,000 likes and over 6,000 retweets, with tons of responses that sparked a conversation on the ethics of Ecklund’s killing of the cougar.

Harper clarified that she’s not against hunting: she believes it’s perfectly fine to hunt for purpose.

She also pointed out that not all sport hunters are bad.

But again, what was the point of stalking and killing a big cat?

Does it matter to you that Ecklund ate the meat and “used” the cougar he killed?

I don’t know what it is about big cats that makes me not want to see them killed. Maybe it’s because they’re viewed as more “majestic” or are less prevalent in nature than, let’s say, chickens or ducks. What do you think?

Barack Obama Tweeted His Own Biden-Obama Meme For The Former VP's Birthday

So much so that Obama even joked about the special relationship he shares with Joe before awarding Biden the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

And it was just in time for the former Vice President’s birthday.

Twitter absolutely loved the post and gave Biden some Happy Birthday wishes of their own.

Others were just stunned that Obama created a meme.

For some, the tweet was a sign of true friendship, a bond that stands the test of time.

Former 'Buffy' Star Perfectly Recreates Iconic Celeb Looks And Instagram Can't Get Enough

Tom Lenk is likely a familiar face to any fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. He played nerd boy Andrew on the series, a creative individual with a habit of making up stories at every opportunity. An actor doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with their character’s direction, but Lenk is clearly as dramatic in real life as he was on TV.

His Instagram account is a deluge of creativity in the form of mocking other celebrities:

It’s doubtful that Lenk considers it mocking, actually; each photo really looks like an homage to favorite looks sported by (mostly) female stars. The handmade creations assembled from what appears to be largely household goods are inspiring, hilarious and fierce as hell:

This Poor Pup's Former Family Showed Up To Her Shelter To Adopt A Different Dog

Usually, pet adoption stories are the kind of news that brighten your day and remind you that there’s still some good left in this world. Unfortunately, the most recent news in the realm of rescue dogs is about as heartbreaking as it gets.

Meet Zuzu, a 2-year-old German Shepherd currently residing in the Downey Animal Care Center in California.

Shelter volunteers describe the pup as “beautiful and loving” and “amazing” — which is evident from her sweet profile photos on ShelterMe, a site dedicated to matching prospective pet owners with shelter pets.

Unfortunately, Zuzu’s life hasn’t been easy, thus far. According to her former owners, she “cried” constantly after her father passed away. Eventually, the distressed doggo jumped the fence into a neighbor’s yard and the neighbors called animal control.

Shelter volunteers had previously assumed Zuzu was a stray — until her former owners showed up at the shelter and Zuzu couldn’t contain her excitement.

“Doing dog intros we got interrupted by a distracted and overly excited Zuzu,” shelter volunteer Desi Lara wrote on Facebook. “With her fast wagging tail seeing her owners Zuzu lite up like a Christmas Tree. She looked like the happiest dog. Yeah, she’s going home.”

In a heartbreaking turn of events, though, Zuzu did not go home with her former family. In fact, they were at the shelter TO ADOPT ANOTHER DOG INSTEAD.

“Their reason was because she was crying and sad since her father passed away. She wasn’t a happy dog anymore,” Desi wrote. “Their solution for her unhappiness was just leaving her here. And [to] go get another dog.”

Obviously, people are outraged by poor Zuzu’s situation and calling for her former owners to be banned from taking another dog.

Most importantly, though, people are sharing the video to make sure Zuzu gets adopted by a deserving family.

“Let’s get her into the perfect home please,” Desi requested.

While Zuzu’s story is heartbreaking, we should be glad that she’s being taken in by a shelter that will find her a good forever home.

“[I was] honestly sad but glad,” Desit told Buzzfeed of Zuzu’s situation. “I knew the rescues who come to [the shelter] would find her a good home where she would be a family member.”

We can’t wait to see Zuzu go home to a family that loves and appreciates her! (h/t buzzfeed)
