Oprah Gave A Speech At The Golden Globes That's Inspiring Everyone

At the Golden Globes on Sunday night, Oprah received the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is given by the Hollywood Foreign Press to acknowledge “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” She was the first black women to ever receive the honor, and she really prepared on hell of of a speech.

Late in 2017, famous producer Harvey Weinstein was exposed as a predator, and accused of sexual assault and harassment by a staggering number of women. The shocking case opened the floodgates; women everywhere were hashtagging their own experiences with sexual harassment and assault with #MeToo, a phrase created by activist Tarana Burke and boosted by actress Alyssa Milano.

Burke was in the audience of the Golden Globes Sunday, as were a number of other organizer’s of the new political group Time’s Up, which seeks to eradicate sexual assault and harassment in the workplace. They were the guests of actresses who wore black on the red carpet in solidarity with all the victims who have been speaking out on their experiences.

All that is to say that the night was already electric. The audience likely expected for Oprah to light things up. She’s an incredible speaker. But what she actually delivered was above and beyond.

Oprah began by saying how much it meant to her to see Sidney Poitier win Best Actor at the Academy Awards as a child. It was the first time she saw a black man celebrated in such a way.

“I tried many, many times to explain what a moment like that means to a little girl, a kid watching from the cheap seats as my mom came through the door bone tired from cleaning other people’s houses. But all I can do is quote and say that the explanation in Sidney’s performance in Lilies of the Field: ‘Amen, amen, amen, amen.'”

Poitier went on to win the Cecille B. DeMille award in 1982, and Oprah expressed how meaningful it was to her that somewhere, little girls were seeing a back women receive it for the first time.

She then thanked people in the entertainment industry who helped her along in her career, but continued to thank all the women who have been coming forward to share their experiences. Not just women in the entertainment industry, but everywhere.

She then shared the story of Recy Taylor, a young black mother who was raped on her way home from church in 1944, by six white men who were never prosecuted for their crime. She died ten days before Sunday’s award show at almost 98. Oprah explained that Taylor fought for justice with the NAACP and the lead investigator was a young Rosa Parks, who is most widely known as a prominent figure in the Civil Rights movement. Taylor was also a Civil Rights activist, sharing her story as part of her work.

Of Taylor, Oprah said, “She lived as we all have lived, too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men. For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up.”

HELL YES.

Oprah’s speech had many people crying before she was even halfway through:

After saying declaring that “speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have,” Oprah had one last thing to say to the people at home.

And some people are suggesting she be the next celebrity to run for president:

Hey, we made it through a year with—you know what, I’m not even gonna bring his name into this. Let’s just enjoy being in the presence of Oprah instead.

Donald Trump Jr. Just Gave Up His Secret Service Protection, And People Have Questions

Donald Trump Jr. no longer wants Secret Service protection, sources confirmed on Monday. What hasn’t been confirmed is why.

The Secret Service would not confirm or deny the request by Trump Jr. A spokesperson merely said:

“To ensure the safety and security of our protectees and their families we will not confirm who is currently receiving Secret Service protection.”

Jonathan Wackrow, a former member of President Barack Obama’s detail, expressed his concern at the decision:

“In today’s global risk environment, waiving this detail poses great danger to him and to his family. What he is becoming potentially is a target of opportunity. People who want to lash out at the president are going to seek that path of least resistance. This decision is negligent.”

So, then, why did Don Jr. opt out of Secret Service protection?

Some pointed to the fact that both he and Kellyanne Conway announced they’d give up USSS protection on the same day…

The same day it was revealed that Paul Manafort had been wiretapped no less…

Fox News speculated Don Jr.’s decision was about saving taxpayer money…

But Twitter wasn’t buying it…

While secret service protection for adult children of a president is automatically provided, they are legally allowed to turn down that protection, as Ron Reagan did during his father’s second term.

Dad Wakes Up To Discover His Daughter Gave Him A Brand New Look

Dad Wakes Up To Discover His Daughter Gave Him A Brand New Look

A young woman named Bree Telon, who lives in Buckeye, AZ, has some very excellent make up skills. All teens are actually required to watch 500 hours of YouTube tutorials in order to graduate now, so it’s not a huge surprise that she can do this:

Mashable reports that Bree was tired of using her own face as a canvas and found someone else vulnerable to her attentions: her passed out dad. He’s just sleeping, but as you will see, it’s the sleep of the dead. The RIGHTEOUS. This man is untroubled by dreams, he doesn’t shift or roll over, he doesn’t suddenly jump up in a fit of night terrors. He is Sleeping Beauty, especially once Bree is done with him:

Gorgeous! When Bree’s dad finally does wake up, he doesn’t even seem too annoyed with his new face, though she managed to glue his eyes shut while applying fake eyelashes. If I woke up with my eyelids glued shut there’d be a helluva lot more screaming, I’ll tell you that much. The video is hilarious, but people seem to be genuinely responding to Bree’s work, too:

A supportive dad will help his daughter achieve her dreams. An extremely tolerant dad can also work.

Impressive, no?

Southwest Airlines Just Gave The Ultimate Clapback To A Twitter Troll

Southwest Airlines Just Gave The Ultimate Clapback To A Twitter Troll

Everyone loves messing with airlines lately, and for good reason. If they can torment us, the least we should be allowed is to blow off some steam once in a while. Unfortunately, it’s usually underpaid sales reps dealing with it, not high powered executive monsters. But that means the people on the other side of your complaint might actually be worthwhile people!

Twitter user @xadoringpaige shared screenshots of their conversation with a Southwest Airlines rep, in which they accuse a certain flight attendant of some very disappointing service:

After making up an elaborate story about a stewardess calling them a “fattie” for asking for extra sugar for their coffee, they lay the blame on one of the most notorious plane servers of all time:

And the service rep, Linnea, was ready with the perfect comeback! It’s so good, you have to wonder if there’s some sort of Britney Spears recognition software programmed into their response mechanism. Maybe this happens all the time? If it didn’t before, it will now.

@xadoringpaige has thousands of retweets on that convo and is starting to get pissed about the free press for Southwest. They want a free ride:

No such thing as a free ride, unfortunately. Just ask Britney, b*tch.
