Demi Lovato Used to Be a 'Barney' Girl

Demi Lovato is best known for dominating pop music charts, but the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer has a history in entertainment that pre-dates music videos with Jamie Foxx cameos.

The 2017 Grammy nominee got her start on the big stage at the age of 10 when she realized a dream that made her the envy of kids all over America: being on Barney.

She shared the stage with not just the Purple Dinosaur, but also with her now real-life BFF, Selena Gomez. Look at her being adorable in this throwback photo.

There’s a purity and enthusiasm we often associate with children that we don’t with adults — which is why it’s probably jarring for many to see this photo of a happy, young Demi Lovato after the news of the apparent overdose that had her rushed to a hospital.

Lovato was resuscitated and prescribed Narcan, and is currently awake and in stable condition. Fans all over are giving tons of support to the pop star by sharing their stories of how her music helped them get through tough times of their own with the #HowDemiHasHelpedMe hashtag.

Lovato opened up about her constant struggle with her mental health, something that she says she battled from an early age in a 2013 interview with Cosmopolitan. Yes, even when she was singing the Barney theme song with her fellow cast mates, she dealt with what she describes as overwhelming personal issues, saying that she was “suicidal” as early as age 7.

“At the time, I was just so grateful to be on TV, but I was also really struggling. Looking back, there was a connection, probably between any kid who’s ever sang that song to Barney, a little place in a child’s heart, a void, that could be filled. And maybe Barney fills it. Even before Barney, I was suicidal. I was 7.”

image

Lovato went on to say that although she was struggling as a child, everyone’s favorite Purple Dinosaur proved to be a strong figure that helped her power through.

“I guess subliminally, I did have a relationship with this figure that was saving my life in a way. I’ve talked about being bullied and the years of being a teenager, but I went through things when I was younger that I’ve never talked about that probably caused me to turn out the way I ended up turning out.”

In 2006, Lovato pivoted from the world of light-hearted, children’s TV to dramas with roles in Prison Break and Grey’s Anatomy.

image

Lovato went back to the Disney channel when she teamed up with the Jonas brothers for the Camp Rock movies.

image

The films kicked off her music career and helped pave the way for her debut album, Don’t Forget to sell over half a million copies in America alone.

image

Lovato’s early struggles with depression and mental health manifested themselves in more harmful ways later in life. The singer has battled with cocaine use and has reportedly abstained from using the narcotic for the past six years.

image

A source close to Lovato has stated that the singer was not admitted into the hospital for abusing heroin, however, they didn’t state what drug she overdosed on. Many believe that, given her past experience with cocaine, the singer may have broken her cocaine sobriety streak.

Oftentimes those who stay away from using a drug after being addicted for some times overdose easily, as the amounts their bodies were used to taking prior to cutting the drug out were higher than what first-time users would require to get high.

image

Narcan is typically a drug given to those addicted to opioids, like heroin and other painkillers. The drug makes it impossible for the individual taking it to get high off of opiates. The fact that she was administered Narcan means that Lovato more than likely overdosed on a “downer” drug, like Xanax.

Lovato’s recent hospitalization has seen not only an outpour of support, but a greater conversation on the importance of self-care and seeking help.

If you or anyone you know is suffering, have them contact one of the numbers in the tweet above to get help.

This Girl Had to Get Surgery After Eating Too Many Spicy Chips

When I moved across the country a couple of months ago, I was trying to find a short-term place to stay while I looked around for an apartment to make my home. I’ve gone through my share of shady sublets, and was so worried I wouldn’t land a spot that I started looking for one to book months in advance. On my first day of browsing, I came across a gorgeous and affordable one-bedroom in a really convenient location, but was super skeptical of the post because of how traumatized I am from my previous experiences.

I’ve dealt with creeps who ask for a cash deposit then claim they’re in the hospital on the exact same day they’re supposed to meet me for the keys. I’ve had people cancel my reservation once I’ve already landed in their city… Needless to say, I’m a seasoned subletter. When I found this lovely one-bedroom on Craigslist, I was sure the listing was too good to be true. So I took a proactively defensive stance when I reached out via email. I asked for boring specifications on the apartment and went over payment details with exhaustive thoroughness. I even asked if a friend could stop by to make sure there were no secret squatter tenants, or anything sketchy like that. Then, I got an email back.

TWIST: I recognized the address from the gushing fan mail I had sent it years ago. The apartment belonged to my favorite living writer and here I was, casually emailing with her directly. Flash forward a few months and we’re friendly and occasionally email each other or meet for coffee to catch up. And that’s how my nightmare sublet search turned into a friendship with one of the best and most famous writers of our time.

I live for real-life plot twists like this. They keep us on our toes while we cruise through this journey of life. Which is why when u/whytho37 asked Reddit to share their most insane plot twists, the results were incredible.

Scroll down for twists so good, you wouldn’t believe they actually happened if you saw them in a film.

A Little Girl Left Her Stuffed Animal At An Airport And It Went On Quite An Adventure

A Little Girl Left Her Stuffed Animal At An Airport And It Went On Quite An Adventure

Remember your beloved stuffed animal, the one you slept with, and dressed up, and dragged around everywhere until it basically disintegrated? Perhaps it survived your childhood and still sits on a shelf, as a beloved reminder of a more innocent time. Or maybe you lost it somewhere, and it was never returned. That’s what happened to my poor stuffed Lamby. Yes, it was a stuffed lamb, who I still think about occasionally. Lamby, where are you?!

I’ll never know. One little girl named Gussie was saved from this devastation after leaving her favorite stuffed animal at the Norfolk Airport. Her mother, Kelly Bridges, wrote on Facebook that not only did the airport find the stuff animal, Cookie Dough, they made Gussie a special surprise: a little book showing all its adventures out on the town.

Bridges wrote: “Guys…Gussie lost her ‘Cookie Dough’ favorite stuffed animal at the airport last week. I called the airport to let them know, and they called us later to say they found it! She went to pick it up today and they gave her this book and I about cried. Norfolk International Airport, you all are awesome.”

The booklet showed Gussie not only that it was ok for her to lose her stuffed animal, but that Cookie Dough was having the time of its life.

image

It met some stuffed friends, checked the weather, and sampled some coveted airport merch:

image

Then, Cookie Dough went for a spin in a very nice car, and even got to ride on the dashboard, though it missed Gussie the whole time.

image

Cookie Dough even tested out some bigger cars, and got all dressed up for the job. It even met some really nice members of the rescue squad.

image
image

Cookie Dough got recruited to work as a police bear for a day, which seems like a big responsibility.

image

And even got to drive some fancy, airport-only vehicles:

image

Cookie Dough learned how to self-check for a flight, which, as we all know, is a very important skill:

image

Cookie Dough also adventured in ways a kid definitely shouldn’t. Stuffed animals have more leeway for stunts, though.

image

And Cookie Dough got snacks!

image

The stuffed dog took a really extensive tour of all the airport areas most of us never get to see:

image

Then almost got recruited again, this time for a different role:

image

But it was finally time to say goodbye to all its new friends and go home to Gussie:

image

Like everybody, Cookie Dough did experience some down time at the airport, but waiting around is part of the experience.

image

The booklet was made specifically by the Norfolk Airport Police, which makes me think that this may be the safest airport in America.

They seem to have a lot of time on their hands:

image

And they used it to make one little girl very, very happy:

image

But Cookie Dough: don’t go wandering aimlessly again.

Girl Gets Fired From Her Job At Target After Prank Goes Viral

Pranks are the worst, but when executed correctly, they can get you a lot of attention. Bad attention.

Twitter user @Delilah810 found this out the hard way, after her “prank” on her best friend in the parking lot of a Target went viral. In it, she pushed that friend, who is sitting in a shopping cart, into a push. It looks pretty gnarly, but the friend was apparently unscathed:

They look like they’re having a blast, to be fair, but it’s a pretty dangerous thing to do. Darn, I sound old!

@Deliliah810’s tweet was doing pretty well already, but then she added an update:

Wow, no kidding.

She seems chill with it, though. Maybe because she’s managed to maintain her friendship, despite everything:

Though many of @Deliliah810’s fans are just run of the mill Twitter users who love a good parking lot disaster vid, there are also a wholllllle lotta people who work at or once worked at Target, too.

Man, if getting thrown into a push is what happens on a work day, what do Target employees get up to at a barbecue?

But there are plenty of people who are enjoying this story even if they have no personal association with Target.

It’s very meme-able:

And they’re loving her, no matter what she’s done:

Because they hate Target:

Don’t worry, there are plenty of other companies that could use @Delilah810’s skills:

Find your path and follow it!

People Are Challenging Taylor Swift's Bad Girl Image And Their Stories Are Inspirational

Taylor Swift stans are not great about reading the room. While Swift has certainly produced some legitimate bops, her latest album has not been a critical success. People generally consider her a snake, and even if she is trying to make something of that with her new album, it doesn’t change wider public perception.

When Twitter user @xnulz asked “name a bitch badder than Taylor Swift” the Internet was ready with some answer.

Basically, everyone. At least according to twitter:

That was actually a very insightful list, full of women it’s worth looking up, and looking up to. And if you love Taylor Swift, that’s fine too!

Beyonce Releases Powerful Video To Celebrate International Day Of The Girl

Wednesday was the International Day of the Girl and to celebrate, Beyoncé released a music video in conjunction with Chime for Change and Global Goals for her song “Freedom.” The video features some very awesome little girls from all over the world dancing and lip-syncing and though they’re both cute and inspiring, they’re conveying a very important message that’s breaking our hearts:

Captions explain that girls all over the world experience violence, in the form of murder, human trafficking, FGM, and even the every day oppression of keeping girls from getting an education. Global Goals wants to see these forms of suppression against women and girls ended by 2030. It’s a staggering goal, with so much in the way, but watching these girls and their fierceness is giving everyone hope that change is possible:

You’re not just fighting for yourself, but for the young women in your life that need you.

Girl Gets Added To Soccer Mom Group Chat And Can't Stop Trolling Them

Sometimes the best things in life happen when you just ride the wave. Obviously this doesn’t apply to every situation. Like when a ship’s sinking and you need to get off and find a lifeboat, maybe it’s best if you stop engorging yourself at the seafood buffet and focus on saving your life.

But other times in life, there’s tons of fun to be had by just saying yes to a situation. Would you like fries with that? Yes. Would you like to come out tonight instead of staying in and browsing memes all night? Also yes.

Would you like to pretend like you’re one of the soccer moms on this group chat, despite being added to it accidentally? Well Facebook user Christi Rantis Lally user said yes to this situation and it provided some hilarious results.

Watch all the drama unfold below.

Why aren’t pudding cups acceptable snacks? Is it because you need to eat them with a spoon? Or the sugar content??

And it gets absolutely brutal…

Unsurprisingly, people were pretty inspired by this teenager’s savagery.

This Girl Replaced All Her Family's Photos With Perfect Replicas Starring Their Dog

It’s summer, and there isn’t much to do. As former children, we all know there’s only enough entertainment to keep you busy for the first few weeks of summer break. After that, it’s up to you to make some fun. Just take this Twitter user Marissa Hooper as an example.

The 21-year-old student decided to reshoot all the family photos that were on display around the house and replace all her family members with her dog, Dixie.

Marissa swapped out her older sister’s kindergarten yearbook photo, a vintage black-and-white picture of her grandmother, and her own graduation photo with hilarious recreations featuring Dixie.

Her mom, Kathryn, told BuzzFeed that it took a few weeks for her to notice that the photos were being replaced. “It was kind of embarrassing,” she said. Eventually, a friend who was hanging out at the house pointed it out to her. “I don’t want people thinking that’s what I do in my spare time,” she added.

Twitter found it hilarious, of course.

Since the tweet went viral, Marissa has started an Instagram account for all of Dixie’s fans.

We all need to steal this idea.

Teenage Girl Scout Applauded For Calmly Facing Neo-Nazi At Protest

Teenage Girl Scout Applauded For Calmly Facing Neo-Nazi At Protest

A photographer named Vladimír Čičmanec was documenting a march in a city called Brno in the Czech Republic on May 1st, when he caught a snapshot of a young Girl Scout standing firm in front of a neo-Nazi.

The march was largely populated by “alt-right” people, and this man, in particular, is identified with the extreme conservative and racist movement by his Thor Steinar sweatshirt.

Posted by Vladimír Čičmanec on Monday, May 1, 2017

Counter-protestors were not blocking the paths of the neo-Nazis in the area, but dancing, singing, and blowing bubbles all around them, according toBuzzFeed. The girl was just one of many people peacefully filling the space to show they are against the message supported by men like the angry marcher.

The girl was eventually identified as a 16-year-old named Lucie, and other people began sharing other glimpses of her interaction with the man yelling in her face:

Lucie eventually saw herself in the viral photo posted by Čičmanec and wrote a message of thanks, saying, “Thank you all for your support! I believe that dialogue is, like other non-violent expression, the best way to combat evil.”

In an interview with the Czech radio, she was asked what she and that guy were talking about. She says they discussed immigrants and migration in general, which is apparently what he’s maddest about.

Though few people are brave enough to communicate with a guy all in black, with his head shaved, screaming at them in public, Lucie says that when it comes to conversation, “It makes sense. It makes sense to be seen and heard and stand up against what we do not like.”

Lucie, a Scout from Junák – český skaut, in discussion with a supporter of extreme right movements, in Brno…

Lucie is braver than all of us, and definitely an inspiration.
