This Homeless Guy Passed out Resumes Instead of Asking for Money to Find His Dream Job

This Homeless Guy Passed out Resumes Instead of Asking for Money to Find His Dream Job

David Casarez has a ton of experience in web development, a relatively in-demand field. He graduated from Texas A&M University. He is articulate and intelligent enough to piece together a resume that lists all of his skills and past work history.

He was also out of a job, and fell on hard times. So hard that he became homeless and resorted to sleeping in parks in the Mountain View, California area.

Rather than flipping the system “the bird,” David got dressed, made a sign, and went on the highway to ask people for help.

But, his idea of “help” was different than other roadside panhandlers you often see during your commute.

David decided that instead of asking for handouts, he’d hand something out himself: his resume.

Which caught the eye of tons of people, like Twitter user Jasmine Scofield, who asked David if she could take his photo and share news of his search for a job on Twitter.

Her post absolutely blew up — it has over 216,000 likes and 135,000 retweets as of right now.

Jasmine spoke with David to find out more about his background and what spurred him to make such a drastic gesture.

For David, it’s his desire to have a successful tech career Silicon Valley, the mecca of the tech world. A “teccha” if you’ve got a penchant for terrible pun-amalgams.

As much of a desperate act as it was, it paid off. David ended up getting calls from Google, Netflix, and LinkedIn, among others.

David’s persistence paved way for the viral moment that ultimately ended up nabbing him over 200 job offers.

In an interview with The New York Post, David sounds like he’s still trying to process the happy-insanity that’s befallen him since Jasmine’s tweet went viral.

“Google reached out to me…So many other companies. Pandora. A bunch of startups. A product manager for Bitcoin.com was wondering if I could work remotely or if I want to relocate to Tokyo. But tonight, I’ll be back on my bench in Rengstorff Park,” he told the Post.

The 26-year-old David left a good job with General Motors in Austin and moved out west in the hopes of launching his own tech startup.

He cashed out his 401k and pounded the pavement in Silicon Valley looking for a job. He was living out of his 2015 Ford utility van. More than a year passed and David was still living in his van. Thanks to free Starbucks WiFi, David was able to pick up some freelance gigs, but hadn’t landed a full-time job.

“No one was hiring. I had an interview with Apple in January, but the job was filled interally,” He told the Post.

David’s van was repossessed, and didn’t have anywhere to stay, except for a local park. Still, he didn’t give up hope: he kept applying to jobs, sleeping in the park day in, and day out. On Friday, July 27th, he decided to dress up to “look presentable” to prospective employers.

He carried his “Hungry 4 Success” sign and a stack of resumes.

“It was basically a make-or-break moment. I wanted to keep my head up high, keep looking forward and see what opportunity would come next,” he said.

image

For David, the over-the-top gesture signaled the end of the line for him. It was his last-ditch effort to try and finally make it in Silicon Valley before cutting his losses and returning to his hometown.

“I was thinking, you know, like this was like my last stop. If this didn’t work, I’d go back home and give up on my dream.”

A few hours passed before Jasmine stopped her car and snapped a photo of David and shared it online. From that fateful moment, the job offers kept pouring in for the young man.

We were all raised on movies that are filled with stories of people being driven to the edge where they’re forced to go past their breaking point before something finally pans out for them. For many who do this, things don’t pan out and they eventually give up. I’m happy that in David’s case, he did not.

This Guy's Christmas Card 'Hack' Is The Most Hilarious Way To Save Money

The presents are unwrapped, the tree has been thrown on the curb, and life continues into the new year until next holiday season. But between now and then there are a whole lot of other holidays and special occasions to be celebrated. If you’re the sort to send cards, you’re probably looking for the perfect illustration and sentiment to convey your feelings via the U.S. Postal Service.

But Twitter user Joe Heenan has another idea. Just use whatever you got! Heenan shared his altered Christmas cards that have been spruced up with nothing more than a black marker and some ideas. It’s a very economical way to celebrate the people you love in life:

Perfect for any occasion—except you should know, Joe, that same sex marriage is just called marriage now, especially if you’re congratulating somebody! But otherwise, a total hit:

A few people even had their own examples:

A wood burner is really reaching, but why not find all sorts of things to celebrate? Goodness knows I have enough unused cards lying around.

Joel Osteen’s Church Tried To Collect Money From Harvey Victims During Service

Pastor/founder/millionaire Joel Osteen caved to public pressure last week and opened his Lakewood Church to victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston.

But Osteen is in hot water again after footage emerged of church ushers collecting donations from storm victims.

Dedicated to hurricane victims in the audience, the service includes Lisa Osteen Comes asking people affected by Harvey to stand up:

Many people in the audience do stand, and their fellow churchgoers pray for them:

Almost all experts agree that recovery from a disaster of this magnitude will be both slow and hard.

Comes tells worshipers that recovery from Harvey will not be slow or hard, but quick! And easy!

As soon as Comes finishes praying for the victims of the hurricane, ushers begin passing out collection plates so the people of Houston may donate to the church. Many of those people have lost their homes to the record floodwaters, while Osteen’s net worth is estimated at $ 40–70 million.

Watch the whole video:

Joel Osteen’s eye is always on the bottom line: how much money can we make and what do we have to say to make it?

This Town Is Trying To Fight Bullying By Fining Their Parents A Lot Of Money

Kids used to tease me in school for my name. A lot. I didn’t really get into many fights, probably because I was freakishly large for my age, but that didn’t stop the teasing. As a result I did whatever I could to fit in and belong, which has probably messed up my life in more ways than I could ever imagine.

It’s not like I’m blaming bullies for my problems, I think part of growing up is being able to learn to be responsible for one’s emotions. But as a father, I know I’ll be heartbroken if my son turned out to be a mean bully, no matter how unfortunate of a reality they are.

And one city thinks that they’ve found the key to curbing bullying all together, and that’s by incentivizing parents to raise kids who aren’t bullies. And how are they going to do that?

By slapping parents with an initial $ 366 if they’re found guilty of bullying other kids, and $ 681 for the same offense in the same year!

The city council is Shawano, Wisconsin, ruled on the new anti-bullying law and hope that parents, afraid of being fined, will better teach their kids to not be jerks.

Understandably, the new law is causing some outrage.

Do you think it’s a little too much to expect parents to claim sole responsibility for their children’s behavior? There are many external factors to consider, too.

There are similar fines in school districts already in place throughout the country as well.

In some districts, if a parent’s kid is constantly missing school, the county fines them once they pass a certain number of absences. The idea is to foster a sense of greater parental involvement in child-rearing, but it seems like a artificially well-intentioned way to just get more money out of everyday citizens, if you ask me. Article Marketing Questions – How Many Articles Do I NEED to Write to Make Money ASAP?

Who else is thinking about using article marketing for their traffic generation strategy? Are you sick and tired of paying for PPC ads, learning new “underground” techniques and trolling after every new “guru” tactic of the week to finally earn what you’re TRULY worth online? If you said YES….the simple truth is that article marketing is probably the BEST, easiest and most elegant way to generate boatloads of backsides to ANy site, service or offer, you choose…and often, make it happen in a hurry. (and for NO cost other than your time)

With this in mind, and as someone who has written thousands of articles that have generated multiple millions of readers in just a few short years, let’s look at one of the MOST common questions I hear.

How MANY articles do you need to write to make a full time living online?

Want to know the answer? It depends on the niche. And on YOU. And on whatever other traffic generation strategies you are using. And how strong and sophisticated your sequence, sales process or marketing methodology really is.

How so? Well…..take heed of a quick example…

In THIS niche, (“article marketing”) you have to write LOTS of articles to get lots of subscribers. Ironically…it’s one of the hardest niches there is, because there is LOTS of supply (articles like this one) and very little demand (people who are genuinely searching for article marketing help!)

What you are reading RIGHT now will probably struggle to get 100 readers. If I was making my living in THIS niche alone….I’d have to write 10 of these a day to really build a business. (if I was relying on this one approach alone)

But….there are OTHER niches that we’ve submitted articles in today, that will get TENS of thousands of readers over the next month, with many thousands of new subscribers, readers and a lot of affiliate sales to boot. Why? They are “sexier” markets, which have HUGE (and universal) appeal, and getting 10, 20 or even 50 thousand people to read a single submission in some of these markets is NOT uncommon.

The bottom line?

You will NEVER get rich writing one or two articles a day…..period. Quantity, is often as important as quality! I’d rather see a new marketer work HARDER, and create and submit more content CONTINUOULSY, than slave over that one perfect piece a day for sure! (because for better or for worse, when it comes to niche market domination, MORE is almost ALWAYS better than less)
