Elon Musk Wants To Create A Rocket To Get You Anywhere On Earth Within One Hour

Elon Musk has a number of projects he’s working on. There’s the hyperloop, and getting someone to Mars, and of course, making constant improvements to Tesla. On  Thursday, SpaceX announced a new goal: They want people to be able to travel anywhere in the world in under 60 minutes.

Obviously, that is a monumental task and we’re still very far away from that being a reality. To tide us over, SpaceX and Elon Musk have both shared a video to explain how they think this would work.

The idea is to first have people travel out into the ocean, or similarly large body of water, and board a rocket. While in the atmosphere, the rocket separates and travels to a new city, traveling at a max speed of 27,000 km per hour.

In the example above, air travel between New York and Shanghai would only take 39 minutes. Using traditional air travel today, that flight would take 15 hours so this is obviously quite the difference.

Needless to say, people are already excited.

But, of course, the jokes are already rolling in.

There’s no real time table for the BFR yet, so we’re all going to have to wait a little longer before we never have to wait again.

Everyone (Even Elon Musk) Has Feelings About This Cat That Got Stuck In A Tesla

Over the weekend, YouTube user S U faced a problem that (presumably) no human being has dealt with before: a cat was stuck inside his Tesla. He heard a cat meowing and traced the sound back to his car. What made this situation extra weird? He didn’t have a cat.

So he posted a video asking for help:

Fortunately, he was able to bring his Tesla Model X into a service station after what I assume was a very strange call. They were successfully able to get the stray cat out. But she did not want to leave.

The car’s owner named the kitten Tessie and she is doing much better now. They gave her a some water, and eventually one of the rescuers was able to find her a new home. In a third video, “S U” said, “Her weekend obviously had a rough start but she probably had the best end of the weekend ever.”

Tessie has been getting a lot of attention online. Even Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk was talking about her.

And the rest of the internet followed suit.

As cute as this is, let’s just hope that Tessie learns to stay away from cars from here on out.

Elon Musk Says Tesla's Solar Roofs Will Be Cheaper Than Ordinary Ones

If you’re an energy company right now, then you’re probably assembling a team of sleazy lawyers to try and come up with laws to halt the sale of Tesla’s solar roof tiles.

Why? Because they’re about to make solar energy affordable for every contractor and home owner in America.

Solar absorbing roof tiles won’t just provide homes with free energy, but they’re going to cost less than most ordinary roofs.

The electric energy giant’s founder and CEO, Elon Musk says that the solar roofs will have a longer life span than their regular counterparts, so it doesn’t make sense for building manufacturers to use other roofing tiles.

It’s worth noting that a lot of the energy saving doesn’t come in the manufacturing process of the roofs, but in shipping and handling.

Bloomberg speculates that when Tesla’s solar roofs become commercially available, the cost will be extremely high, as they are pricey to manufacture.

However, the benefit of the solar roofs are that they’re lighter and not as fragile as traditional roof tiles making the process of shipping them easier and exponentially cheaper.

Plus, there’s also the coolness and sexiness factor, which has been Musk’s concern with green and electric products from the beginning:

“The key is to make solar look good. We want you to call your neighbors over and say, ‘Check out this sweet roof.'”

The tempered glass roof tiles will be offered in four styles: Tuscan, Slate, Textured, and Smooth.

The solar energy picked up by the tiles can be used to directly power a home or even stored for later use in Tesla’s power wall battery or other solar power banks you’ve got in your home.
