This Mom Was Not Allowed To Breastfeed In Public At Her Friend's Wedding

The Facebook group Breastfeeding Mama Talk included a post in which someone shared a wedding invitation which asked that attending breastfeeding mothers only feed their children in the bathrooms. And immediately the internet wondered why that was anyone’s business.

“To all our mommies who are breastfeeding, we are thinking of you; we are sensitive to the fact you may need to breastfeed during our event, therefore we have designated an appropriate place for you to feed your baby so that you do not have to do so in public in front of our Family and Friends,” the note reads—emphasis theirs. “For your convenience we our accommodating you with a comfortable and private area with chairs and baby blankets in the ladies room. We request that you use this area when you are breastfeeding. Thank you.”

Yup, I’m sure it’s for the moms convenience. Anyway, the confused guest turned to the group for advice.

“This was in the invitation to my husband’s best friends wedding,” the mom wrote. “My husband is the best man so it will just be me in the crowd. We have had several arguments over ‘my’ breastfeeding ways and they have multiple times voiced that I need to go elsewhere to do that in ‘private!’ I was going to just be nice and let my best girl friend watch my two kids (ages 2 and 3 months) and she would wet nurse my youngest (she’s still nursing her 2 year old as well) because we haven’t found a bottle my youngest will take yet and wet nursing doesn’t bother me. Hubby and I were just gonna make it a date night… But apparently that wasn’t okay either. so I said would just bring my littlest baby to the wedding then, but no way in hell I will leave and nurse her in the bathroom (no matter how ‘nice’ they make it!) I don’t eat in the bathroom I’m not feeding my child in there!… I want to be ‘nice’ as possible but what should I do!? Go ahead and leave her with my friend (who by the way has nursed her multiple times) or take her!? Help!”

She ended up leaving her kids with her friend, according to Breastfeeding Mama Talk, even though most of the moms there said they would have probably just said “screw it” and stayed home. Personally, I’m not sure I’d be friends with someone who was THAT offended by the sight of me feeding my kid.

New York Public Library's New Book Train Will Take Your Inner Book Nerd For A Ride

If you were a fan of New York Public Library’s two block long Rose Reading Room, I’ve got some good news for you; the ceiling restoration is complete and the room is scheduled to be reopened on October 5th.

That’s great news for any bookworm, student, or person that can’t stand sitting at a Starbucks while the Pumpkin Spice craze is still going on. The movie scenes shot in the room do it no justice, and the only real complaints people ever had was how much lugging around they had to do if they wanted to pick up a research book from the other side of the library on one of its 11 floors.

That is now a thing of the past.

With the recent expansions and book relocations, planners kept the citizens of New York City in mind when they came up with this new delivery system. Each of the 24 ‘carts’ can hold up to 30 pounds of materials, can travel vertically or horizontally,  and take only 5 minutes to work through all 11 levels of the library thanks to their 75 feet per minute speed. The carts also have built in sensors so you can track your delivery when it’s on route to you.

The $ 2.6 million dollar was part of an initiative to help make the Rose Reading Room an even more pleasant experience for those that would be spending countless hours there going through however many of their 4 million volumes of research material they had to.

Matt Knutzen, the director of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Divisions within the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, said in a statement, “Our priorities include preserving our materials and making them increasingly accessible to the public in an inspiring space for research. Our recent storage expansion, our restoration of the Reading Room, and the installation of this system are all elements of that work.”
