Everything You Need To Know About Saturday's Royal Wedding

In case you missed it this past weekend, much of the world closely observed one of the most anticipated events of 2018, Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle. The fairy tale wedding did not disappoint.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went against several royal conventions. For one, they put an end to the long-standing streak of an all-white British monarchy, but they also got married on a weekend, rather than the royal tradition of weekday nuptials.

Here is the American side of the family showing off their royal wave.

This allowed for incredible celebrity sightings (don’t forget, Meghan was an actress on the popular TV series Suits), outfit changes, a wild party—and resulted in over 1.9 billion people tuning in live around the world

Here’s what you need to know about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Royal Wedding.

1. These were the larger-than-life florals cascading the walls of St. George Chapel, where the two got married.

2. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became the sixteenth royal couple to get married at Windsor Castle since 1863.

3. Here’s the ring Prince Harry proposed with. It was custom made by the court jewelers Cleave and Company, and featured one diamond from Botswana as well as two smaller stones from Harry’s mother, Princess Diana’s collection.

4. At the wedding, Meghan made a regal entrance, wearing a Givenchy dress and a tiara lent to her by the queen. Her veil was hand-embroidered with flora representing the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. She walked halfway down the aisle alone, until Prince Charles accompanied her to Prince Harry.

5. At which point, the internet melted.

6. During the church ceremony, gospel singers sang “Stand By Me.”

7.  Teenage cellist Sheik Kanneh-Mason performed.

8. Eventually the newlyweds made a picture-perfect exit.

9. At some point during the daytime luncheon celebration, Elton John performed some of his hits, and this lemon elderflower cake was served. The cake caused a bit of a stir, as it represented another shift from royal wedding tradition, which typically calls for fruit cake to be served the the reception.

10. Prince Harry, Meghan and Elton John weren’t the only ones looking stunning during the Windsor Castle daytime affairs, which called for men to wear “morning dress” (morning coat + waist coat + tie + striped trousers) and women to wear a formal day dress (or skirt suit) with a mandatory hat.

11. Only a select few of the daytime invitees were invited to continue to the royal couple’s evening reception, which Idris Elba apparently DJed. And Serena Williams’ beer pong skills allegedly put everyone else to shame.

12. After Prince Charles and Camilla decided to “leave the young ones to it” around 11PM, there was a spectacular firework display, which many say was Harry’s decision, as they remind him of his late mother, Princess Diana of Wales.

13.  Rumor has it, the party continued into the early morning hours in London’s exclusive Chiltern Firehouse restaurant.

And after that, there was a private house party, making this wedding sound like the funnest and wildest the monarchy has maybe ever had.

But the hangover seems to have worn off quickly, as Kensington Palace released official photos of the wedding early Monday morning.

People Can't Believe They Were Wrong About The New Royal Baby's Name

There’s no doubt that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, AKA, William and Kate, are an adorable couple with an adorable family.

Just look at them.

And now there’s a new addition the the monarchy, a bouncing baby boy that Kate Middleton gladly presented to the world, looking absolutely stunning hours after delivery.

Because they’re royalty, and Kate Middleton’s beautiful, and they seem like pretty great people, there’s been a lot of interest in the monarchy’s personal lives. The latest gossip churning on the rumor mill were all the possible names the couple would pick for the latest addition to their family.

In fact there was so much hullabaloo surrounded by the new baby’s name announcement that bookies started placing bets on it, no fooling

The heavy favorite was “Albert,” like Prince Albert, who was married to Queen Victoria between 1840 and 1861. Let’s not also forget the equally important former WWE star.

But, rather quickly, it became evident that the bookies were probably wrong, even before the baby’s name was officially announced.

It turns out the child’s name isn’t one anyone expected: Louis Arthur Charles. Well, “Arthur” is in there, but as a middle name.

In addition to people gloating over how wrong the oddsmakers were, there were some different reactions to the news. Some pro-Brexit people immediately politicized the naming of the baby, calling the names “Remainer” ones.

While others used the naming as a chance to come up with some choice One Direction jokes.

Someone noticed a trend among men’s royal family names: that they’re all just being rearranged for different members of the monarchy.

Popular Arthurs were a bit upset that their name was relegated to the middle one…

Then there were some people who noticed that the dress Kate wore when she showed her baby to the world looked really, really familiar.

And although people had their own theories about the reasoning behind the naming of the new royal baby, and what he’d liked to be called…

There’s a bit of family history behind the naming of this little guy.

And if you lost some money by betting on Albert, well, one, why the heck are you betting on baby names anyway? Do something normal like a horse race. But, two, you can console yourself with the fact that the little guy is healthy and absolutely adorable.

Which is all anyone could ever ask for of a baby. Congratulations to the royal couple!

This Candid Picture Of The Royal Family Is Cuter Than The Official Photos

Every since Prince Harry’s engagement to actress Meghan Markle was announced, Royal Family fever has swept America. He’s marrying that beautiful woman from Suits! She is one of us, only far more cool!

I’ve never particularly cared about the UK’s symbolic figureheads. A queen? Who cares. Being born into the royalty just seems like the luck of the draw. Being married into it, however, is an accomplishment. Taking an interest in what’s going on with queenie and her crew is new to me, but plenty of people have made it into their hobby. A mom named Karen Murdoch got up early on Christmas day to catch a glimpse of the royals leaving St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, where they traditionally celebrate.

And she caught the perfect picture:

Don’t they look incredible? You really couldn’t have staged a better image. And people tried. As a comparison, here’s a picture from Getty:

It’s not a bad image, but so stiff and formal in comparison to Murdoch’s candid. Her picture has gone wildly viral, and the replies are full of people congratulating her and also telling her to be careful. Everyone wants a piece of this photo’s action.

Murdoch told the Telegraph that she took the picture on an iPhone and all she did was shout the season’s greetings at the group to get those smiles.

“I’m just very bubbly by nature and I was with my daughter and I got a bit excitable, I suppose,” she said. “I was just sort of shouting and I just went, ‘Merry Christmas!’ like an idiot. I was fan-girling.”

She was there with her daughter, and hopes she’ll get some money for the image to send her kid to school. I hope she does, too! It’s fed my interest in Markle’s upcoming nuptials for another day.

The early bird gets the pic.

People Are Losing It Over Coat Meghan Markle Just Wore To Her First Royal Engagement

Soon-to-be Princess Meghan Markle made a a dazzling debut on the world stage this week.

Prince Harry and his fiancée made their first official appearance together in the UK, meeting a community that is “very special” to the Prince. The couple did their inaugural royal walkabout through Nottingham, then attended a World AIDS Day event.

Markle charmed people with her glowing smile and warm enthusiasm — and her chic coat:

Later, they visited the Nottingham academy, where they watched young actors perform an improvised play about a “fictional” young couple going public with their secret romance. One of the actors, 19-year-old Taynika Jarrett-Bennett, said, “We wanted to make it a fun play and involve the royals.”

And Markle won over the cast when she complimented their performance.

And so a new royal chapter begins. We think Princess Diana would be proud.
