This Couple's Horrifying Facebook Post Shows The Dangers Of Walking Barefoot On Beaches

You thought you could relax and kick your shoes off at the beach, huh? Nope. Danger is everywhere.

Young Canadian couple Katie Stephens, 22, and Eddie Zytner, 25, are warning people to really watch where they’re walking barefoot at the beach after a trip to the Dominican Republic ended with a hospital stay. The two told CTV News that their feet were infested with hookworm larvae after a day walking the shore. The viral Facebook post showing the damage has been horrifying everyone who sees it:

Wow, rare to hear a healthcare story where Canada looks worse than the U.S.

You can see how the hookworms got progressively worse and worse in the photos:

Here it is just days later:

Zytner told CTVNews that though their feet were itchy pretty much right away, they thought it was nothing at first.

“For a lot of our trip, we found that we were scratching our feet quite a bit,” he explained. “Sand fleas we had heard about so we kind of assumed it was that at first.”

It wasn’t until they returned home and the blisters started to form that they became worried.

“I had a lot of itchiness during the trip,” said Stephens. “I think I might have complained about it a little bit more that my feet were really itchy, but mine didn’t start swelling and everything until about the Sunday night.”

They went to the hospital, and were seen by two different doctors who didn’t recognize the condition. Zytner was send home with nothing more than bandages. It wasn’t until four days after their return home that a hospital doctor who had seen hookworms in Thailand figured out what the problem was.

The couple was prescribed ivermectin, a medicine that isn’t licensed in Canada. They had to send in a special request for it—and their health insurance allegedly told them their hookworm wasn’t severe enough to justify ordering the meds.

Zytner’s mother drove to Detroit to pick some up for 88 Canadian dollars, which is more inconvenient than expensive. Though to Canadians, spending money on meds probably seems crazy.

They’re both recovering slowly, though they still have to use crutches to get around.

They say they’re sharing their story so more doctors see the condition.

Hookworms can be caught by stepping in dirt or sand touched by an infected animal’s feces. You might think you’d know if you are standing in poop, but the world is a litter box.

To prevent it, wear shoes outside, wash your hands before eating, and make sure your own pets are treated. This is definitely not the way that anyone wants to end a vacation.

Woman's Frustrated Facebook Post Shows A Huge Problem With Clothing Sizes

Finding clothes to fit my ample hips, as a man, is a very trying endeavor. I don’t know why genetics gave me this issue, or why I grew up undervaluing the importance of having well-developed enough hamstrings to make strengthening my lower body even easier when I’m holder but here we are. I’ve got an on and off rickety left leg and hips that are much too wide.

But as bad as my clothing woes are, I know they pale in comparison to what women face on a regular basis while shopping for clothes.

A problem that’s only compounded by a slew of body image issues perpetuated by media and advertising at large. But this woman discovered that on top of all these body image issues, clothing manufacturers have done something that really mess women up.

And that’s a complete lack of size consistency.

Deena Shoemaker wrote about the “bone to pick” she has with designers and clothes manufacturers who decide to constantly change what a size “4” or “12” is, depending on the garment or who made the clothes.

No I’m not selling my pants; I’ve just got a bone to pick.

I’ve worked with teen & pre-teen girls as a leader and counselor in various places for the last 6 years. I’ve listened to countless girls tell me about their new diets and weight loss fads. I’ve have girls sob in my arms and ask me, “if I were skinnier, would he have stayed?” I’ve counseled girls who were skipping meals. I’ve caught some throwing up everything they’ve just eaten.

But as I was going through my clothes tonight I started to notice how dramatically different the size of all my pants were. And I have a real problem with the fact that my size 5 pants fit me THE EXACT SAME WAY that my size 12 pants do.

She says that the lack of consistency is making people think they’re rapidly losing or gaining weight and isn’t helping them with their personal body goals.

Let me explain why I’m not happy, America. You photoshop models and actresses and slap them on the front of beauty magazines. At this point it’s a pretty universally known truth that you’re lying to us and those aren’t accurate portrayals of the human body. I can prove it to girls pretty easily by simply showing them how photoshop works.

But when you resize a girl’s pants from a 9 to a 16 and label it “plus size,” how am I supposed to fight that? Photo manipulation is one thing but how do you expect me to convince her that the number printed inside her clothes is a lie too? How do you expect me to convince her that she doesn’t need to skip dinner for the next month because her pant size didn’t *actually* go up by seven digits?

STOP telling my girls that a size 4 is the “ideal body size” and the “epitome of beauty” if you’re going to change a size 4 into an 8 or a 12 or whatever number you feel like on any given day.

And to you; my dear beautiful girls, my size 2 girls or my size 18 girls, your size doesn’t determine your beauty; your life does. The size printed inside your clothes is subjective to the fashion industry’s personal taste and it fluctuates rapidly. Stop believing the social normatives about who and what you should be.

You are lovely and you are loved.
Just exactly the way you are.

And people couldn’t be happier with her message. Her post has been shared over 73,000 times with more than 3,000 comments.

She makes a good point, should clothing sizes be an industry standard?

Groom's Mistress Shows Up At His Wedding Wearing A Wedding Gown

An unfortunate reality of many modern day relationships is that people cheat. It doesn’t matter how long they’ve been dating or if they’re engaged or married, but the fact is that people have affairs.

And I’m not saying that having multiple partners or lying to someone about having an affair is necessarily a bad thing. People have all sorts of reasons for why they choose to seek out other romantic connections. But if you’re set to marry someone and settle down with them, then you probably want to cut out all those side-piece shenanigans.

Or you might just end up with a wedding like this: where a groom’s mistress showed up wearing a wedding gown.

In the video the husband can be seen trying to escort the furious mistress out of the wedding hall, but she stubbornly refuses.

She went on to grab the microphone and tell everyone in the wedding hall that the groom was a womanizer, which led to a shouting match between her and the guests.

The horrifying event happened in Ghana. Apparently after the mistress left the hall a bigger confrontation occurred outside. It’s unclear as to whether or not the bride and groom ended up tying the knot after the mistress’ surprise appearance. (h/t metro)
