Government Officials Tell Church To Stop Feeding The Homeless After Thanksgiving

The United Methodist Church in Malibu, California has offered a free meal to the homeless every Wednesday for the past three years. It’s an act of charity that would seem to go right along with Jesus’ whole ‘be kind to the poor’ message.

“It’s a safe place,” Michah Johnson, a homeless resident of Malibu, told CBS. “And everyone is welcome. And the food is really good. It’s home-cooked. And there’s TLC involved. They keep my spirits up. They keep me accountable. When you’re homeless, it’s very easy to slip off and become jaded.”

But city officials requested a meeting with the church’s leaders to directly ask them to stop feeding the homeless. “Very succinctly, they claimed we are increasing homelessness,” said Dawn Randall, who works with the church.

Commenters on the CBS report were outraged at the heartlessness of the city…

In the statement, the city denies that any decisions were made and says the issue will be addressed at a public meeting tonight. We look forward to getting an update on this matter.

Grandma Who Accidentally Texted Teen Keeps Promise Of Inviting Him To Thanksgiving

Last week, a tweet by 17-year-old Jamal Hinton of Mesa, Arizona, went viral after he received an accidental text from someone else’s grandma. The teen was accidentally added to a Thanksgiving family group chat started by Wanda Dench, who had intended to add her own grandson but got the number wrong.

Dench didn’t know she’d got the number wrong until Hinton asked for a selfie to see if his own grandma had just got a new phone.

A tweet by Hinton, sharing the hilarious exchange, quickly went viral and acquired more than 200,000 retweets.

But what seemed to get the most attention was Dench’s promise that Hinton could still come around for Thanksgiving dinner because “that’s what grandmas do… feed every one.”

And you’ll be pleased to know that yesterday, grandma kept her end of the deal.

Dench told ABC 15 that Hinton had indeed come over for Thanksgiving dinner, and that it was destiny that the two meet. “This wasn’t me, it’s come from God above. He’s just using us as his tools and vessels to bring a message to others.”

And Twitter loved it too.

It looks like it was a lot of fun.
