This Guy Is Tracking All The Most Miserable Places In The World According To Their Names

Damien Rudd runs an Instagram account called “Sad Topographies” which has recently been turned into a book. Rudd’s genius idea, according to Bored Panda, is to simply look up sad words on Google Maps and snap a screenshot.

Apparently, all of America was settled by extremely depressed, anxious, and lonely people. There are lakes, highways, mountains and peninsulas everywhere dedicated to humanity’s most painful emotion.

Like sadness:

Lots of mistakes and disappointment were made, and then commemorated on the map:

Just general bad feelings all around:

The grimness kind of starts funny, gets sad, and then comes around to funny again. Sort of like walking the loop around Lonely Lake. Beautiful in summer!

This Couple Celebrated Their Engagement By Recreating Film's Greatest Duos

This is Jackie Nguyen and Nate Huntley:

You might be able to tell from that photo that they are in love and engaged. The two met while doing a production of Miss Saigon in North Carolina. They’re both actors and perhaps a bit dramatic. In an email, Jackie wrote that when they decided to get married, they joked about taking engagement pics that would be so “outlandish” that they’d confuse their whole family. It was so fun to brainstorm ideas, they couldn’t settle on one. It turned into a year-long photo project with photographer Isaac James and relationship goals for the rest of us.

The two have been taking more and more engagement pics, paying homage to all their favorite characters in TV and film. Here we have Marvel’s Agent Peggy Carter and Captain America:

There’s Dwight Schrute and Michael Scott. They’re sort of a couple, if you think about it.

Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant escaping the dinos in Jurassic Park:

Doc and Marty McFly forever:

The characters from Mrs. Doubtfire, which is technically about divorce, but still great costumes:

Some of the pics are pure fantasy:

They even dressed up as real life couple Yoko Ono and John Lennon:

And as unrequited love, from Bojack Horseman:

Don’t worry, they still have a few normal pics:

People Can't Stop Laughing At How Ridiculous Their Pets Look When They're Sleeping

One of the things I admire most about my cats is their ability to sleep anywhere—on the bed, behind the toilet, draped over the shoe I’ve been looking for for the last twenty minutes. They just have the capacity for bone deep relaxation. And sometimes it looks really, really weird.

A popular Japanese hashtag that loosely translates to “be an untidy sleeper” is circulating on Twitter right now, and it shows just how freaky animals get when they’re chasing that REM sleep:

These animals are all supposedly okay. They’re just ridiculous, not in comas. But if you saw a person looking like this on the couch, you’d scream:

This rabbit food was set to stun (I checked, the rabbit on this person’s timeline is FINE):

Animals don’t care where they land:

Or if they’re scaring the crap out of you:

Or what corner of the cage they’re crammed into:

But, again, they’re okay!!

Even if it seems like they’re trying NOT to be okay:

And then, in the snap of your fingers, they’re ready to play again.

Young Olympians Are Making People Question What They Did With Their Youth

The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang are giving people a brief respite from bad news. We get to see people at the top of their game, living life to the fullest, while dancing on ice or flying over a snow hill. It’s beautiful.

People have become particularly obsessed with the young’ns.

At the top of the list are 17-year-olds Chloe Kim and Red Gerard, who both won the gold medal for snowboarding, and whose wholesome teen-ness has been on full display throughout the competition.

They’re very cute and relatable. But that relatable quality ends for the vast majority of people when their Olympic accomplishments come up.

SB Nation tweeted that Kim and Gerard are the two youngest snowboarding gold medalists in Olympic history, then asked followers, “What were you doing when you were 17?”

And everyone’s responses show why they weren’t getting awarded the highest honor in athletics:

Aside from being a nerd and touching themselves, many former teens were enjoying the drugs and alcohol:

Though some had more innocent pastimes:

Though some are pretty pissed that they’re being asked about their accomplishments when they didn’t have the leg up Kim and Gerard supposedly did:

It’s true, we would all be Olympic gold medalists if all things were equal. Except me, because as a teen I hated sports.

People Are Sharing Their 'Ugly Duckling' Transformations And It's Shocking

Growing up is tough, especially because it sometimes feels like the transformation is never going to happen. If you’re going through puberty and it’s terrible, just know there’s another side to it and that is on full display in the subreddit /r/uglyduckling.

The subreddit is for anyone who has undergone a transformation, so not everybody is in that period in college where you finally figure out how to dress. But, many people tend to skew young and the changes they make are pretty simple. Like growing their hair out:

How did she do it? By embracing the little things.

Making little changes in your life can transform you in all sorts of ways, even if it’s the decision to avoid the salon. Every journey begins with one step!

Below are some of the most astounding changes people went through. Some have elaborate stories, some just grew out of their awkward phase, and some just woke up one day and realized they’d changed.

Okay, I’m going to start using moisturizer today. What’s your small change?

Folks Are Sharing Pictures Of Their Dogs Looking Like Humans And It's Uncanny

It’s a bit of common wisdom that folks look like their pets—either because they choose animals who remind them of someone they love (themselves) or because they transform over the years of feeding, petting, and feces disposal.

A man named Liam Rice has his own explanation for this phenomenon. Rice is an extremely handsome animal care officer at the MSCPA who owns a husky named Luna. He posted an impromptu photo shoot with her and suggested their uncanny resemblance to one another is because Luna carries the spirit of a human within:

I don’t think so, but lots of people responded with their own puppers living like people and looking like people. Any thread full of cute dogs is fine with me, so let’s agree to disagree and check them out:

A cat also made it in, which I find relatable:

But people think Liam looks familiar. They also think he looks a whole lot like a cartoon character:

So, Archer Sterling looks like a husky, too? Yep, sounds right.

Liam is a babe!

But he appears to be taken, sorry everyone.

Well, we still have dogs to enjoy. Love can wait.

One Week After Couple Adopts Triplets, Their Doctor Gives Them This News

Sometimes destiny can throw you a curveball. This is particularly true in the case of Sarah and Andy Justice, a Tulsa, Oklahoma couple desperately longing to be parents. After years of unsuccessful attempts at conception, the Justices decided it was time to consider adoption.

Yet, like their three long years waiting to conceive, the adoption process proved equally frustrating. Still, the couple persevered and was soon given the chance to adopt not just one, not two, but three babies. Once the triplets were born, however, something unbelievable happened…

Facebook

Sarah and Andy Justice had been married for three years and while they were loving life together, they were missing one, vital thing: children of their own. It wasn’t for lack of trying, mind you, they just hadn’t had any luck conceiving. After three years of waiting, it seemed they would have to look into some sort of help.

Sarah and Andy decided that it was time to seek the advice of a fertility expert. In early 2014, the two traveled from their home in Tulsa, OK to St. Louis, MO to enlist the aid of a fertility specialist. The Justices drove for nearly six hours, but when they got there, they received more bad news…

iStock

The specialist told the couple that while they were perfect candidates for in-vitro fertilization treatment, there was still only a 10% chance that they would ever become pregnant. The process was also a bit more invasive than the couple had been prepared for. What’s more, the process wasn’t exactly going to be cheap, either.

iStock

As it turns out, in-vitro fertilization costs a pretty penny. The process would cost the Justices between $ 30,000 and $ 60,000. Between the extremely prohibitive cost and the fact that even if they did try it, it might not work, the couple decided that this was not the right path for them. So they went to the next logical step: adoption…

Screengrab

Even adoption had certain difficulties attached to it, however. For one, the process can take years to finalize, and the Justices were, like most people who opt to adopt, interested primarily in newborn babies. Still, they were willing to do whatever they had to in order to get the ball rolling, including a series of interviews.

Screengrab

As part of the adoption process, Sarah and Andy had to be interviewed by prospective birth mothers in order for them to determine if the couple would be suitable as parents. The interviews, while cordial and successful in the end, were exhausting and nervewracking for the Justices. Sadly, their struggle to build their family was far from over…

Screengrab

The Justices had been accepted as adoptive parents on two separate occasions, following the interviews. Yet in both cases, the birth mothers had changed their minds at the last minute. Just when it seemed like everything was going smoothly, they had to start all over again. But they were not about to give up that easily.

istock

Finally, when they were at their lowest, the Justices received a call. One of their expectant mothers had accepted them as parents. They met with her again and even went with her to an ultrasound appointment. Everything appeared perfectly normal during the scan, but there was one little surprise that neither the mother nor the Justices had planned on: the woman was having triplets…

Facebook

Rather than try and renege on the agreement, the Justices decided to move forward with the adoption and accept all three babies. The papers were signed, after all. Sarah and Andy were about to become the proud parents of three beautiful newborns. It was not something they were initially prepared for…

Screengrab

As a matter of fact, the situation actually suited the couple perfectly. They had already planned on having more than one child but had dreaded the prospect of undergoing adoption process a second time. It seemed that now they had the perfect situation: multiple children all at once. Soon they were ready to meet their newborn triplets…

Facebook

The babies, Hannah, Joel, and Elizabeth, were born in May 2013. In yet another twist of fate, the triplets were born eight weeks early. The tiny little babies weighed only about three pounds each, which meant that they had to be kept in neonatal intensive care for some time before they could go home with their new parents.

iStock

A week after their premature birth, Sarah Justice decided to go to a doctor’s appointment by herself. The stress of the whole situation had been affecting her health slightly and she wanted to make sure she was feeling better by the time the triplets came home. When the doctor finally came in, he had some unbelievable news; she was not sick, she was pregnant. It was a miracle, and what’s more, she was expecting twins…

Facebook

Fate is a funny thing. While this amazing, and unlikely, occurrence would have felt like bad timing to most people, the Justices saw the humor in it. The irony of the situation wasn’t lost on them either, or the difficulty that would come with raising five children all under a year old. But Sarah and Andy were mentally and emotionally prepared for what was to come.

Facebook

They were, of course, shocked, even slightly overwhelmed by the news, who wouldn’t be? But they had been longing for a family of their own for so long, they couldn’t help but she the unique situation as a true blessing. Soon they had welcomed their biological twins, Andrew and Abigail, into their home as well. It was going to be a big adjustment…

Facebook

The situation wasn’t easy, obviously. With five hungry babies, the couple didn’t sleep a whole lot in the first few months. Luckily, Sarah and Andy had the support of their community and their family. Friends, neighbors, members of their parish, everyone pitched in to help and provide for the new family of seven.

Members of Tulsa’s Eastland Baptist Church began to send over food for the family as well. They sent cooked meals, frozen dinners, and baby formula. Their friends at church even offered to help watch the five Justice babies while the couple was away at work. And it wasn’t just food and time their friends provided, either…

Facebook

Diapers, bottles, blankets, clothing: it all came pouring in from donations around Tulsa. The supplies were sorely needed. The five infants went through a whopping 300 diapers and 84 bottles every week. And because it was such a task getting the kids from place to place, they had to get a bigger van.

Facebook

Sarah and Andy had a little trouble telling the babies apart at first, despite their slight age difference. To fix this, they came up with a system. The boys were easy enough, for obvious reasons. But for their older daughters, Hannah and Elizabeth, the parents used different colored toenail polish. Soon, the Justices were internet celebrities…

The story of the Justice clan instantly went viral and in the three years that passed since the Justices became parents, they have gained an impressive Facebook following. The world is constantly looking at their fantastic photos and updates. In fact, the couple who thought they’d never be parents, even welcomed a sixth child in January of 2016.

Facebook

Despite the crazy demands that the Justices’ face each and every day, they say they wouldn’t change it for the world. Their lives have become all about the babies, but they both feel that it’s a good thing. “It was something we’ve wanted so badly that we love it,” says Sarah Justice. “We just really love having these children.”

People Are Sharing Their Worst Landlord Stories And They're Truly Horrific

Speaking of home loans: you’re probably gonna need a hefty one if you don’t have some help from your parents or make a crap ton of money. Home prices are at some of the highest they’ve ever been, and that doesn’t even factor in the ever-increasing property taxes, ie money you continually pay just to have the privilege of owning your home. So even if you own it you don’t really own it.

Then there are all the headaches of owning a home, maintaining a property, footing the bill for all repairs, insurance, higher heating and energy costs, it can all seem not worth the headache. So renting seems like an alluring option. That is, until you get a crappy landlord. And boy, there are plenty of those, as evidenced in this Twitter thread.

Some of these stories might get you house-hunting ASAP.

If you’ve ever had problems with your apartment: heating, hot water, you know how annoying it can be to contact a landlord to get it fixed. But this guy’s building owner’s “ingenuity” takes the cake.

While others were just plain criminal.

This is just wrong on so many levels.

This guy sounds like a real boogey man.

This nickel and dime scumbaggery.

If square footage was mentioned in a signed lease, then this guy could’ve sued for all the rent he paid.

But sometimes, landlord experiences pan out just fine.

On Reddit, there are plenty of awful renting stories, too.

There was the old die-and-switch.

And showing off the place while people were still living in it. Classy.

So if there’s anything you can take away from this post: know your tenant’s rights and always, always get signed copies of the lease with clear language. Just because you get a nightmare landlord doesn’t mean you have to settle for it.

Wendy's Just Roasted McDonald's Over Their Ice Cream Machine And We're On Their Side

Ever wandered into a McDonald’s on a warm summers day for some refreshing ice cream only to be told that the ice cream machine isn’t working? You’re not the only one. In fact, there’s an entire meme that centres around McDonald’s ice cream machines not working…

These are all classics, by the way.

And now, the fast food joint behind everyone’s favorite Twitter account, Wendy’s, has got in on the action. In a reply to a tweet about Fisher-Price’s McDonald’s Soda Fountain, which includes an ice cream machine, Wendy’s delivered this burn…

Someone needs a visit to the burn unit. This isn’t the first time that the geniuses behind Wendy’s Twitter account have roasted McDonald’s. Here’s a reply to a tweet that McDonald’s corporate account probably didn’t mean to send out…

And Wendy’s also went on the warpath in response to McDonald’s announcement back in March that quarter pounder burgers in the majority of their restaurants will be cooked with fresh beef by mid-2018.

McDonald’s just can’t catch a break. Social media users seemed to enjoy this latest burn even more that those last two.

It even made some people hungry.

For many, the winner was clear.

This user is even planning McDonald’s funeral.

Get these people a pay rise.

Others were just as brutal as the red-haired girl herself.

Kim And Kanye Revealed The Name Of Their Third Child And People Can't Handle It

When Kim Kardashian and Kanye West has their first child and named her North West, it seemed obvious what direction things would go in. Obviously, their next three kids would be South West, East West, and eventually West West. But when you expect Kimye to zig, they zag.

Little Saint West was born, adding a much holier dimension to the family. When the couple announced they were expecting a third child via surrogate, it was anyone’s guess what was coming.

Now, here she is. Chicago West.

Kim also RTd this, for the folks not sure how to pronounce Chi, because they’re not from Chicago. It’s like “shy.”

Kim and Kanye can’t go for a walk without the Internet weighing in, so you better believe people have thoughts about named a kid after a major metropolitan area:

I understand why people are freaked. Celebrities are generally known for giving their children really ground, average, and unremarkable names. Also for hating drama and attention.

What do Kim and Kanye think they’re doing??
