Store Fires Manager After Denying Mother Time Off To Be With Her Son On Life Support

Store Fires Manager After Denying Mother Time Off To Be With Her Son On Life Support

When managing a business, it’s tough finding dedicated workers who you can actually trust and rely on.

Not everyone may take your business as seriously as you and when you’re the boss, it requires you to make tough decisions like having uncomfortable conversations with some employees who aren’t cutting the mustard.

Without going overboard, obviously.

image

And while it’s true that human beings can come up with some of the lamest, off-the-wall excuses to get themselves out of just about anything, like this dude who thought he’d “explain” why he has a hickey…

image

There are some people, however, with legitimate excuses as to why they can’t make it into work. And, as long as you’re not an overbearing boss, you’ll figure out a way to change schedules around and ensure your business is running.

Unfortunately for Crystal Reynolds Fisher, her boss seemingly wasn’t really that understanding of an individual. She informed her she’d have to miss a shift so she could be with her 18-year-old son who was on life support. Crystal’s Boss, Dawn, really wasn’t feeling that excuse.

image

Crystal, who works at a PS Food Mart and Folk Oil Company gas station, had to have her son rushed to the hospital after he suffered a 104-degree fever. She asked her daughter to call out of work for her as she stayed with her son. She recalls hearing her boss on the other side of the line:

“She said ‘can you have somebody cover mom for [Friday], my brother’s really sick, they’re going to have to ventilate him. And the boss, I could hear her over the phone and she told my daughter ‘this ain’t the way we run things, you’re mother needs to be the one calling me.'” Fisher told Fox17.

Fisher learned that her son was suffering from a bacterial infection and was placed on life support. She texted Dawn to let her know of her situation and that she would return to work the second is health began to improve. This was their conversation.

image

Immediately, Dawn tries to convince Crystal that her not showing up to work because her son was on life support was tantamount to her “quitting.” Something that Fisher contested. She notified Dawn she would reach out to corporate and inform them of the way she acted.

image

Still, Dawn did not relent, thinking she was in the right.

image

Frustrated and flustered, Crystal couldn’t believe this response. So she posted the screenshots on her Facebook page and made the post public.

It immediately went viral.

Crystal’s post has been shared over 75,000 times to date, and people reached out to the mom to let her know that what her boss was doing, was in fact, illegal.

In no time, PS Food Mart and Folk Oil learned of Dawn’s behavior and announced that they would be looking into the way she handled her interaction with Crystal.

After conducting their investigation they discovered that Dawn was, in fact, in the wrong, so they announced on their Facebook page that she was fired from the company.

Some people pointed out that there are companies only act in their employees’ best interests when they’re put on the spot, and that they should proactively make sure their employees are taken care of – without a huge social media scandal.

As for Crystal, she only has one message for her former boss: “I pray for you. I pray for you. That’s all I can say.”

Patton Oswalt Just Shared The Most Anthony Bourdain Email Of All Time

Anthony Bourdain is known as a titan of the culinary world. An authority on great cuisine. Some would even go so far as to call him a celebrity chef.

A moniker that Bourdain became famous for hating on. His book, Kitchen Confidential, which launched him into the stratosphere and helped make him a household name, was a stunningly well written tell-all that outed himself and other line cooks/chefs as being drug-addled madmen who happened to have a passion for amazing food.

Bourdain even went so far as to make fun of celebrity chefs. His tell-it-like-it-is, devil-may-care bluntness was poetic – because he cut to the core of what he loved/hated about culinary culture.

image

He looked and acted like a member of The Ramones that picked up a knife set instead of a guitar and stumbled into a kitchen instead of a sound stage.

Unfortunately, Bourdain took his own life, leaving behind his 11-year-old daughter, along with the amazing persona he had developed over the years.

A persona that was evident down to his email correspondence. Patton Oswalt shared an image of a message he received from Bourdain after he had asked him for suggestions on what to do while honeymooning in Paris with his wife, Meredith Salenger.

Oswalt gave Bourdain a list of suggestions he had received from friends and family members and the No Reservations host responded in his trademark style:

Patton,

I’m a fan and an admirer so gotta tell you this is no way to enjoy Paris.

F*** them. All of them. They’re THERE, everywhere. You will see them from the car window as you go and do important s*** like live your life. In Paris !

Try and plan as little as possible.

Le Comptoire is great. Amazing food and perfect atmosphere.  Show early and squeeze in to L’Avant Comptoire next door.

Le Dome for shellfish tower

Rue Mouffetard for the market

And sandwiche jambon or fresh croissant anywhere at right time.

People responded to Oswalt’s tweet, telling him what he most definitely already knows.

And others couldn’t stop nodding their heads, calling the email “classic Bourdain.”

Tons of celebrities and prominent figures spoke up in the wake of Bourdain’s death.

Some shared personal experiences they had with the man.

And tributes/condolences are popping up all over social media for him.

Including people who worked or lived with Bourdain.

And those who worked in the same industry as the artist.

Whenever a noteworthy person passes away there’s no shortage of theories as to why they did it. But the real answer is depression. If you or anyone you know is depressed, get help:  1-800-273-8255.

This Couple Proposed To One Another At The Exact Same Time Because They're Meant To Be

It can be hard to stay positive on Valentine’s Day when you’re single, but every once in awhile a real gem surfaces in all these sappy love stories clogging up social media. This is one that will make you shout from the rooftops, “Love is real!”

Meet Tori Monaco and her girlfriend Berkley Cad—or I should say fiancée. They just became engaged after asking each one planned a surprise proposal for the other, to take place at the exact same time.

Insiderreports that they had some help—Cade’s mom knew what each woman was planning, and helped facilitate their proposals so that they took place during a family Pictionary game.

“Her mom was the mastermind,” said Monaco. “They were planning this perfect proposal.”

And she caught the whole thing on video:

In the video, Cade is at the easel, trying to lure the love of her life into guessing, “Marry me.” But then she turns around and sees Monaco on bended knee, asking the same question. Cade had been planning the proposal with her mother for some time, when mom got a call form her daughter’s girlfriend sharing her plans to do the exact same thing. Of course, mom got to scheming.

Everyone is sobbing over this perfect moment:

Help, I’m sobbing! This is the first same-sex relationship for either woman—they met online and traveled across state lines to meet each other. They hit it off right away and have taken it all the way to a ring. And they’re celebrating:

I think this expresses it pretty well:

Conservatives Protest Starbucks' Newest Holiday Cups, And It's Not About Jesus This Time

It’s just not the holiday season without a Starbucks cup controversy.

This year, conservatives are pointing out a very small detail of the current Starbucks cup design:

You see those two hands, top left? Well, the Christian right is CONVINCED those hands belong to lesbians and that the cups are pushing a gay agenda.

Oddly enough, Buzzfeed News seems to be responsible for drawing attention to this.

After Starbucks released a video featuring a lesbian couple…

…people happily tweeted that they believed the hand-holders on the cups are the lesbians from the ad:

Guess we will see how this controversy evolves over the holiday season.

People Are Rising Up Against Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Wrappers–And It's About Time

John Haltiwanger is a reporter for Newsweek who specializes in foreign affairs and defense.

And, now, candy. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are among the finest of the Halloween delights, a prized commodity when it comes to post-trick-or-treat trading. And yet, they have a flaw. Not a fatal flaw, but something that’s bothered us for the 89 years this candy has been on the market.

Seriously. What the heck, Reese’s? Why do your cups have such a hard time letting go of the pointless paper wrappers? How has this been an issue for longer than Mickey Mouse’s career?

Maybe for their centennial Reese’s will finally give us a working paper wrapper.

Terry Crews Recounts Time He Was Sexually Assaulted By Hollywood Executive

In the past week, dozens of women ranging from Gwyneth Paltrow to Angelina Jolie have accused film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexually harassing or assaulting them. Reports by other women accuse Weinstein of forcing them to perform oral and vaginal sex.

Weinstein’s lawyer has denied the claims, but over the weekend, the producer was fired from The Weinstein Company by the board of representatives.

Now, Terry Crews has taken to Twitter in support of victims and to tell of the time he says he was sexually assaulted by a male Hollywood executive in 2016.

Crews explains that even as the intimidating figure he is, he was afraid to act out of fear of losing his job.

Crews also feared that no one would believe him.

Twitter was pretty shocked by the revelation.

You've Probably Been Using Lemon Juicers Wrong This Whole Time

Juicing lemons with a handheld manual juice press can seem like an obvious process, but you might be missing a step that makes all the difference!

The common squeezing technique might look a bit like this:

The more practical and efficient way is to cut the bottom end of the citrus and let the convex part of the press flush out the juices by mashing the pulp.

This type of juicing technique fits in with other ways of juicing where the pulp is being pressed on by a convex structure and twisted.

If this comes as a shock to you, you are not alone!

It’s never too late to learn something new! Take this tip and make the most out of your citrus juicing adventures.

Chrissy Teigen Slams Donald Trump And Donald Trump Jr. At The Same Time On Twitter

Chrissy Teigen’s updated Twitter profile is just three words but it speaks volumes.

The American model decided to update her Twitter bio on Tuesday…

Her choice of words, describing herself as a “high quality person,” was intended to mock Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr.

Teigen took her cue from the recent drama involving Donald Trump Jr. releasing his email exchanges with a Russian operative in an effort to obtain damaging information on Hillary Clinton during last year’s campaign.

Despite the fact that Trump Jr. possibly violated federal campaign finance laws and basically admitted to collusion with Russia, Donald Trump released a statement lauding his son’s transparency, calling him a

Teigen’s Twitter followers loved her subtle jab.

This user borrowed Trump’s own words to commend Teigen.

This is not Chrissy Teigen’s first time taking on the Trumps.

Last month, she had choice words for the president when he tweeted:

“The failing @nytimes writes false story after false story about me. They don’t even call to verify the facts of a story. A Fake News Joke!”

Daughter Shares Hilarious Text From Dad After Meeting Alpacas For The First Time

Alexandria Neonakis’ father is currently vacationing in Peru, and has been updating everyone on his time there. There are plenty of things to see in a country other than yours that make you fall in love with the place. For Neonakis’ father, it was alpacas.

He sent this text to his daughter with what may be the best first impression an animal ever gave a person in all of history.

Alpacas quickly and permanently became his favorite animal on the planet.

As with any obsession, one simply wasn’t enough, and her father followed up with this picture shortly after he sent the first one.

Neonakis wanted to share her father’s joy with everyone, so she posted their convo to Twitter.

Unsurprisingly, everyone loved the fact that her father fell in love with alpacas.

The tweet went viral overnight, much to her surprise. (but not to ours, right?)

Hopefully he doesn’t find out that alpacas are also a delicacy in the region.
